Dear friends,
Happy Mother's Day weekend to all of you! I generally try not to send out more than one newsletter per month, but there are a couple of other exciting things going on this month that I'd like to share.
Seattle Erotic Art Festival presents
Photography + Lighting Workshops with Thomas Park: Explore / Play
Saturday May 21, 2011
I'm excited to announce that the Seattle Erotic Art Festival has invited me to teach photographic workshops in conjunction with this year's festival! There will be two workshop sections, both on Saturday during the festival weekend.
Explore: In the first workshop, we'll cover core concepts in photography - image framing and composition; the visual effects of using different lenses and exposures; color balance, etc. Not a pro? Interested in learning more about your camera? Or are you experienced but want to see what that shot looks like if you frame it at 35mm vs. 100mm or f4 vs f16? We'll discuss these photographic concepts, then work with a lovely (and very patient) figure model to apply your ideas.
Play: The second workshop is a studio lighting workshop. We will be talking about and working with studio strobes (flashes). We will work on building up several lighting looks piece by piece to give hands-on experience with the effects of different lighting modifiers and light placement. We'll be focusing on lighting that gives visual drama and is complementary to the figure. A solid understanding of core photographic concepts is required for this workshop. Participants of "Explore" are also welcome to attend. (Please note that this workshop is almost full.)
Both workshops are limited to 5 participants. Note that we will be shooting figure models, not pornography.

Additionally, some of my work was selected by the jury for this year's SEAF. This marks my 4th year as an artist in the juried festival! I will have on display some of the largest-format pieces that I've ever produced, including a nearly four foot long canvas from the series pictured below. I hope you'll come by to take a look!

Best regards,
Thomas Park
