May 2012
Dear friends,
It's been an exciting year so far! I spent a couple of months at the beginning of the year living in Europe; you can read about a concept I photographed at an abandoned sanatorium complex outside of Berlin on my blog: http://thomasparkphoto.com/2012/05/22/beelitz-heilstatten/
There are two things that I wanted to share with you, particularly for those of you who are photographically inclined:
DPReview: The One-Light Studio
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/2148100943/the-one-light-studio
Last year, photography site DP Review (Digital Photography Review) had invited me to contribute articles to the site as one of their Pro columnists. I'd taken a bit of a break from shooting and writing earlier this year, due in part to my travels and in part to some changes in my professional life. I now have a new article up on DPReview where I discuss some simple techniques for getting a number of lighting looks using a single light source in the studio. One of my goals is to provide photographers of different levels of experience with techniques that they can use without needing a truck full of gear and equipment. Please give this article a read; if you have feedback on the article or thoughts on what you'd like to learn about, feel free to drop me an email!
Seattle Erotic Art Festival presents
Photography + Lighting Workshops with Thomas Park
Saturday May 21, 2011
http://www.seattleerotic.org/festival2012/workshops/
Also on the topic of education, I'm honoured to announce that the Seattle Erotic Art Festival has invited me back to teach this year's photographic workshops. These are broken up into two sections, one class covering core concepts in photography (composition, using the camera off of "auto" mode) and another covering studio lighting. In particular, we'll be talking about creating erotic art, posing and lighting models to flatter the figure, and how to get creative with the equipment you have (yes, it's a theme I'm fond of!)
Both workshops are limited to 5 participants; both sections sold out last year, so I'd encourage you to reserve a seat soon if you're interested. There is only one seat left in the lighting workshop at this time.
To give you an idea of what the curriculum covers, here is one of my images from last year's workshop:

Finally, for those of you thinking about erotic art, I'd encourage you to pick up a copy of La Figa: Visions of Food and Form (http://www.amazon.com/La-Figa-Visions-Food-Form/dp/1935359754) This is a fine-art book from my friend and studio-mate Matt Freedman and award-winning chef Tiberio Simone. The majority of the images in this book were shot in Studio Brick!
Best regards,
Thomas Park
Apologies – one quick correction on the date for the workshops – they will be on Sunday, June 17.
