Studio Brick
June 2009 #2

Dear friends,

Looking for something a little more interactive than your typical Art Walk?

Put yourself in the scene - you strike a pose for the camera while the lights flash, or you're relaxing with an exquisite glass of wine. What sort of party is this? This is a photo party, the first open photographic session I've done in many years.

However, it's not simply an excuse to spend an afternoon having photos taken and enjoying fine wine - you'll also be helping to bring an elegant, contemplative art project to Burning Man.

1 - 5 pm @ Studio Brick

214 1st Ave S, lower level of the Grand Central building

This year, I am creating a deep playa installation of tall, feudal Japanese style banners bearing calligraphy penned by the amazing artist Eri Takase, who designed the stamp you see on the bottom of my photographic prints.

To help make this happen, I'm having an afternoon photo party / wine tasting fundraiser at Studio Brick. If you need professional photos for any kind of promotion or just want a portrait, this event is for you. If you'd like to relax with some friends and enjoy some good wine before heading to your evening plans, please come by!

A donation of as little as $20 gives you a mini photo session in my professionally-equipped photo studio.  Not interested in having your photo taken?  Come by and enjoy the wine and company!

If you'd like to attend, RSVP's are kindly appreciated so I can plan for supplies.  You can RSVP and see more information about the project on Facebook, at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=97235731919

Studio Brick is located at 214 1st Ave S, in the lower-level arcade of Pioneer Sq's historic Grand Central building, between Washington and Main.

If the main entrance is closed, you can access the arcade via a staircase to the left of the main building doors, next to Fireworks (just look for the sign with our logo on the sidewalk!)  Go downstairs and turn right, we're at the end of the hallway next to "From the Heart" pottery.

Best regards,

Thomas Park

Dear friends,

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!  There was a great response to the photo party event this past weekend, but quite a few people couldn't make it due to the marathon road closures or other events.

Since there were a number of people asking when we'll do something like this again, we've decided to set up a similar event for Art Walk this week.

Studio Brick
August 2009 #1

Dear friends,

Hard to believe it's August already.

This month's show at Studio Brick is a little different; rather than showcasing photography, we will have on display some large-scale calligraphy created in conjunction between Thomas Park and master calligrapher Eri Takase (http://www.takase.com).

We will have special guest Velvet Mechanism (http://www.velvetmechanism.com) bringing her unique jewelry creations as well!

MU (nothingness)

1st Thursday Art Walk

August 6, 2009

7 - 10 pm @ Studio Brick

214 1st Ave S, lower level of the Grand Central building

(See the bottom of the email for directions)

If you're not headed to Burning Man this year, this will your chance to see MU, Thomas Park's collaboration with the brilliantly talented calligrapher, Eri Takase.  (She holds the equivalent of a high-degree black belt in calligraphy.  Seriously.)

This project will be an art installation at the Burning Man art festival, held annually in the Nevada desert.  The installation consists of 11 large banners (10 feet tall x 2 feet wide) penned with Japanese calligraphy.  The texts range from traditional Japanese sayings, many taken from Tea Ceremony, to modern poetry from Thomas Park.

We will have many of the actual full-size banners on display for this month's Art Walk.  Hope to see you there!

November 2009 #1

Dear friends,

Apologies for the lack of a newsletter recently.  It was a very busy summer for all of the Brick artists, capped off by Burning Man.

Brick will be closed for November's 1st Thursday Art Walk, but you can experience photography from this year's Burning Man by Matt Freedman at Sea Compression this weekend.

Be sure to wish Matt a happy birthday if you do come down!

June 2010

Dear friends,

Things have been quiet on the studio exhibitions front at Brick, but stay tuned - we have been busy shooting and will have another exhibit up in August.

Photo District News - help us win!

In the meantime, a quick call-out for your support.  I have a photo up for an award at PDN, a national photography magazine.  I entered the voting on Wednesday and have reached 9th place already, but still need 200 votes to get to the top.

That's about the size of this mailing list, so a vote from everybody (and friends) would be incredibly helpful.

If you'd be so kind as to support my work by voting at http://pdnthelook.com/bin/Rate?image_id=1009901164 - this just takes an email address to verify that you're real, then click on the "vote" button after clicking through from the verification email.

The image below is the one up for vote; the full set can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomaspark/sets/72157619814805175/

Thanks for your support!
