Thought I would pass this along- This has been the source of irritation for some… Thanks goes to Paul Shorter in Northridge for investigating this and figuring out what was going on..

Normally when importing User labels back in to Vista after using Excel for MAC  the import is either not at all or only very partial, either way it is not good.  .

When resaving the delimited ,TXT file on the MAC and opening it on a PC in Notepad, there are lot of extra characters and “rubbish” in between the columns, to the point where some elements/lines appeared to repeat and others did not start a new line correctly.

When using Windows, line breaks are \r\n, where as in OS X, they are only \n.

As a result, while TXT files created in Windows will display correctly in OS X.  TXT files created in OS X will be missing all the line breaks when opened in Windows.  (Basically, in most cases the text will be displayed on only 1 line.)

The solution turns out to be a simple one [thankfully].  Instead of saving the file as a Delimited .TXT file, select SAVE AS and use the ‘Windows Formatted Text File” option on the MAC’s Excel save page.  This creates the necessary line return and Vista is happy to import the file correctly.
