Central CT State University students have been organizing to hold a
general assembly to take a stand against social and economic
injustice. Students discussed increased debt, inability to find jobs, the
unjust execution of Troy Davis in Georgia and costly endless wars as issues
that affect all students and young workers today.
The growing Occupy Wall Street movement has inspired and given voice to a
generation that will not stand idle while the pockets of the wealthy grow fatter
and the poor get poorer. We at CCSU will join in solidarity with over 1000
occupations in cities, towns and campuses across the country. On
election day our occupation will seek to reclaim a space on campus where
students can have a political discussion, can plan future actions, and suggest
resolutions that can be passed through the general assembly. We want to directly
participate and shape our future not just elect politicians.
We, the students of Central Connecticut State University, would like to
invite the surrounding communities, colleges and high schools to help make history by joining the world wide movement.
CCSU's first General Assembly will begin at 4pm on November 8th. Following the General Assembly at 6pm there will be a solidarity march to Welte Auditorium to join the CCSU AAUP
sponsored protest of the campus lecture by former Defense Secretary Robert
Gates. Our campus community does not support Robert Gates' message of war.
We want to put forward our message of peace, justice, solidarity, and
equality for all.
