We are looking urgently for volunteer queer/trans/disability friendly,sex-positive sign interpreters, communication assistants, personal assistants,etc for a variety of sexy disability events!
I am involved with Acsexxxable- we are a cross disability,social justice group working to create sex positive spaces that hold the desires and perspectives of a broad variety of identities, bodies, and experiences of/with disability as central in order to challenge the sexual oppression people with disabilities often deal with on a d.i.y.basis. We do this important work through workshops, community building, and hosting sexy parties. See our website for more information (www.acsexxxable.ca).
What cross-disability means to us is a recognition and dedication to disability activism that is inclusive to and directed by people with wide array experiences of disability as well as other forms of marginalization/identities. Meaning we welcome allies and psych survivors,people labeled as intellectually disabled, trans/genderqueer people, physically disabled people, racialized people, people with learning disabilities, people with visible as well as invisible disabilities, Deaf/deaf people, AAC users,people with scent sensitivities, poor people, people with HIV/AIDS, and soon. Thus our organization is committed to meeting a broad range of access needs. This includes things like offering ttc tokens, wheelchair accessible bathrooms, lifts, and more, but also includes providing sign interpretation, communication assistants, and personal assistants.
These necessary services and valued skills deserve to be well compensated. Unfortunately when it all adds up it becomes really expensive. As many of you know this expense is often used to excuse not making events accessible. This is clearly not acceptable. Admittedly, Acsexxxable has had to make concessions on what access we have provided in the past (ie. offering d.i.y. real time captioning instead of sign interpretation) as we also have very little funding for this kind of activism. You’d be surprised how little funding there exists for sex parties!
We are hoping to find awesome fabulous people willing to volunteer their skills or work sliding scale as well as other creative solutions to make Acsexxxable more accessible!
As I mentioned earlier we are doing some pretty rad and wide ranging work. We acknowledge that not everyone would be comfortable at a sex party. We are currently planning a make out party (sometime late April/early May), workshops (ongoing: April 20, May 8, and May 10) and of course a sex party. We are hoping to find folks willing to help out/work at these events. If you are unable to volunteer but would still be available let us know your rate per hour. I know it is a busy time of the year so I would greatly appreciate it if you are unavailable if you could pass this on to others who might be available. Also, I wanted to extend an offer in being part of this project on an organizer level or know those who may be please pass on the information!
