The collection agencies are FOR_PROFIT-- In fact, THEY are the source of so many of our problems.  Sure, politicians allow them-- but they are greed, greedy part of the financiers with the big monies.  They lobbied to get all those credit rules and laws NOT protect student loan debt, including bankruptcy. SM, once non-profit is the leader.  Their profits are something like 900%  and THAT is how a (e.g.) $12,000 lona becomes an $80,000 debt.

Once you've paid off the amount you borrowed + the student loan interest, THAT is who is and who is NOT getting your money-- NOT tax payers,  all those high fees are SM profits, because guess what-- THEY own all those for profit collection agencies.

SO THAT IS WHO YOU ARE PAYING !! OR NOT

Dr Deb, first I want to say it breaks my heart that u can not use the
degree so earned. I know your worked hard to
complete a doc degree. Harder than the losers we have in Washington.
Useless, self serving politicians.
I am angry and sadden that u can not help the people you trained to
help. That is a sin beyond words.
Someone should be held accountable for all they do to students.

Now, back to NOT paying. If students don't pay on loans, here is what
happens:
They get paid, tax payers pay back your loan. Sallie mae will be paid
on your defaulted loan by Higher ed.

Then they come after us. Like they now for me. THey take 15% of any
thing I earn.
Not paying, interest on your loan goes to 30%. So who wins? All the so
called non profit collecting agents.
Collecting agents that are friends of politicians and so on.

I think not paying only hurts students and tax payers. We need a plan
to expose these rats. (sorry rats, you don't deserve to
have your good name tagged on to scums of the earth)

The politicians (Democrats  and Republicans have played this game for
years and we have fell for it. The game is call: distract and attack.
They keep US fighting with each other so we don't see the damage they
are BOTH doing.

Until we ALL united and expose them and follow the money, we will stay
where we are. If you always do what you always did, u will always get
what you have.
We spin our wheels because we all go over on separate battle fields. I
am a veteran, and see the battle field differently.
Until we pull are forces together. In a none violent respectable way,
we will never be heard.

The occupiers are being used by the very people they appose. They are
beginning use by the very people making money off them. How sick is
that.
If they would only stop and follow the money funding their cause, they
will see themselves as the fools. The occupiers have behaved in a way
that noone
is taking them serious. Their reputation is so tainted it is such a
waste of their time to get anything done. Even the people funding they
are in hiding.
I believe their hearts were in the right place. But, it all went wrong
with the mess they caused.

So, Doctor Deb, I don't see not paying hurting those we want to hold
accountable. They will always make their money off us. We need a
united plan.

I see it this way. Many of us have families, friends. If we gather
respectfully with our family and shoe the real side of the damage and
how we are slaves to
those making money off our children's and grandchildren. Real
stories.

One way: youtube, tell our story. See, how we really are paying and
paying more than they ever knew.
2. Get real news media time on stations that care. Obama has the bias
media in his parket. They will not show the real story if it makes him
look bad.
So, we need to be wer we can show our real lives and how inslaved we
are to our student loans. Ans show step by step who is making the
money on our backs.

Show real families. Show your story and so many that are NOT allowed
to use the eduction you all worked so hard to get.
She were are seen like the dead beat dads. Loosers, that live with mom
and dad and want something for nothing. They need to see families and
your story.

The American people, have a heart, those making money off us, have NO
HEART. We get the REAL picture out. Then we can be heard.

I watched an occupier on TV last night (well, I have no cable, can not
afford it, watched on my computer) He made all of his occupier friends
look like fools. It was so sad.
He wanted to battle instead of tell a story of real people hurting.

We need real stories. I am 63 years old, a mom, a Nana and a Vietnam
veterans era. I have worked hard all of my life, paid my bills and
robbed every month for years and years
because of a LIE. I never defaulted. I have documents. A box that
almost take 2 people to carry, filled with the truth.

I am trying to get with Glenn Beck to have a group of us tell our real
story. People like u and me. People that are like the people we will
talk with.
A friend of mine knows Glenn. We can d the audiences thing he does.
Now this will anger some in here. But, we can not have people lie the
occupiers they are out of control.
That have acted in away that people can not relate to. I am still for
obeying the laws and treating ALL people with respect. I would never
dream of treating our police offices with such disrespect has I have
seen the do. They have families and don't need what the occupie4s did
in our cities. The filt and mess they did was so shameful.

We need people to see us just like them, hard working people, with
families, respectable caring people. If anyone wants to send me there
story. That I can put together to present to Glenn Beck, please send
your info to me.
Tell me your story and give me contact info. I will do everything in
my power to have our story heard. Even if u have no children or
grandchildren. But, have a story that shows you have been enslaved by
your student loan. How you have paid and paid and the amount is
doubled and tripped.I believe ther are more peope like myself that pay
and pay and get no wear.

See the American people only know about those who don't pay. (for what
every reason and I am not downing you) it is just that we need our
brothers and sisters to see the real us.
They need to see themselves in us. Those that struggle and pay. I
worked for over 20 years..earned what I am being robbed of. I know
their are more  like me.

I want to hear from students that went to school and now can not use
their education because they have student loans. People like me that
can not us my Certificate of Eligibility for Home refin or to buy a
home. Because on loan papers from banks it asked, do you have a
government defaulted loan. YES, good bye.

If you send your story to me, in the subject put >student loan.

Done ranting. Veronica

This is an interesting discussion for me, as I am serving as an unofficial advisor to several mental health counselors, who are seeing clients, who are seriously depressed, and in trouble, over unpaid bills, including, student loan payments.  Most agencies, do not offer any sort of financial counseling, or are prepared to deal with mental health issues, related to such.  So, I have been assisting them to understand what default is; some of the consequences of default, and how debtors may perceive banks, collection agencies, student loan organizations, etc.  I am a holistic person.  Everything ties together, and to address the depression, anxiety, fear, is only one piece of the problem.  I have been asked to to talk with students, who are considering going to school, but will need to take out student loans, besides, pell grants.  Many of them, along with their parents, are unaware of the fees and penalties.  Mom/Dad, you might not want to be a co-signer.  If our economy crashes, and you cannot find a job to make payments, guess what?  I also talk to students, whose majors, probably should not have financial aid attached.  For example: Ministers, Priest's, Rabbi's, etc.  One graduate school for ministers, charges $34,000+ for three years.  The starting salaries for many of them, is not going to be enough to pay for the loans, plus, interest.  Most clergy do not end up in big churches, or mosques, with a high salary.  The reality of it is, unless you are teaching, or in the nursing field, you are not going to find a lot of "free" money.  I am not even sure how much the VA pays for veterans education.

The bottom line is: we all need to be educated, as well as advocates for ourselves and others.
This email is just my opinion, and may or maybe your's.

Very good advice. It also affects relationships; many don't marry because one has student loans & the other does not want to inherit the hassles. It will affect the other's credit for buying a home, etc. So it is wise to forestall marriage but this trend makes a significant impact on children. Overall it widens the lifestyle differences between American affluent & the poor/previous middle-class.

I don't date because of my student loan debt. I know it's just going to become a deal breaker down the line so I don't even bother. It's happened too many times before so I no longer even put forth any effort & if women show interest in me (even women I would be interested in dating) I simply tell them I am single because I want to be single and that I'm not interested in dating anyone.

That is correct however it does become part of the couple's total credit liability and credit condition which is important when purchasing a home, related insurance, etc. Any joint credit review will reflect that student loan debt. If the couples income is sufficient to cover all debts including the student loans and all debt payments due as current,  then its not a problem, but any negatives for either partner pollute the marital credit health. Its not just student loans- its any bad debt student loans being the toughest to resolve from negative status. Some couples have even resorted to checking the potential spouses credit because bad debt for either partner screws it up & then its better credit wise to remain single.

You know, this whole discussion has really become a sad
commentary on our modern world. The biggest complaint I have heard
about this new century, is "Everything's about money!" True, it seems
that now, we can't even turn around, without being charged for
something. Didn't used to be like that. But, when we have reached
the point that money has become more important than friendships and
love, then, our civilization is truly doomed! No wonder people don't
smile and laugh anymore, the way they used to (say, 20-or-so years
ago).

It has been said, "The love of money, is the root of all evil."  Not having money; loving it before all else.  Some people say that they are offended because our currency says, In God we trust. They want that removed.  In gods, we trust then, and money, is one of our gods.  It consumes us; and for many people, money is their god.  I remember my Grandmother telling me about the day that the stock market crashed.  She was working in a large building, when she saw bodies flying out of windows: Bankers and other financial people: jumping to their deaths.  Their god, had just failed them.  Student loans tie us into a god that has no mercy, and, Sallie Mae and others, demand our worship of them.  They create fear, distrust, anxiety, depression; loss of relationships, etc.  I am not arguing against money.  I am arguing against the abuse of it.  if it is our god, than God, help us all!

I am singing off this group, as the original purpose has been lost and I wish not to be a part of all this verbiage, complaining about the world etc etc etc.
