If you have had problems in obtaining a visa perhaps you can comment on our tips to those trying to get a visa for the September 2009 Convocation in London.

Tips on Visa Applications

Apply in good time and make sure that all documents are originals.

Make sure that you have sufficient in your bank account to finance the overseas visit.  An original bank statement should be submitted showing such funds. If the bank statement does not show your regular salary credit then you should send an original salary document.

The Entry Clearance Officer has to satisfy himself that the costs of your trip and of your maintenance and accommodation in the UK can be met without recourse to public funds.

We do not recommend that you stay with relatives/friends in the UK. We recommend that you choose a suitable hotel from www.schoolshotels.com and make sure that facilities are available for 26 September 2009. Copy the details correctly onto the visa application form paying particular attention to getting the postal code correct.

Once you get your visa you can make the booking although we recommend that you arrive in London and pay cash for your hotel as it is extremely unlikely that all the hotels will be full and you can get good discounts for cash.

If you are a graduating student make sure that you can explain the relationship between IPFM and the university. All tuition is provided by the IPFM, which is a UK company registered as a Professional Institute.

The Irish University Business School is accredited in the Philippines.

When dealing with the British High Commission you should assume that the person who interviews you will get ‘brownie points’ if your visa application is rejected.

The most important factor will be whether they think that you will go to UK and not return. Remember that there are millions in UK, who applied for visas and said they would return but did not. You have to put up a compelling reason to return to your home country.

If you have travelled overseas before you should give details.  That shows that you are more likely to return home.

If you have friends and particularly relatives in the UK do not mention them or say that you will stay with them. The more relatives and friends in the UK the more likely you are to stay.

If your visa application is rejected you should appeal. Your application does not attract a full right of appeal. You should appeal on the grounds of discrimination by public authorities and acting contrary to the Human Rights Convention.

If you do not appeal then any future applications will also most likely be rejected. Remember that if everyone appealed no one would ever be rejected!

Any rejection by the Home Office should be in writing. You will have a limited time in which to appeal. The appeal procedure is straightforward and does not require the use of a solicitor. There are no costs involved in making an appeal. The appeal is heard in UK where you are automatically provided with a legal representative.

If you are rejected, please send us a copy of the rejection notice.

Hi Doctor Wooller,

Thanks for the tips. This is an indication of your concern for all your students.

I have just made an application over the web. I will be interviewed on 4 August 2009.

Hope everything goes well, being a regular traveller all over the world.

Kind regards.

Peter
