Assistance Sought: Farm Hands’
executive director, Robert Bornt, MFT, has successfully developed and
demonstrated a non-traditional model-of-care to combat “Combat
Operational Stress” and the resulting injury clinically diagnosed as
“PTSD”. He seeks people to assist his efforts in various

Event
Announcement: The Naval Medical Center Health Care
Consumer Council will meet on 26 August 2009. This is a great opportunity
for all beneficiaries to address their questions and concerns directly to
Naval Medical Center San Diego's new Commander, RADM Bruzek-Kohler.

Announcement: From Bob Phillips - The Mount Soledad Veterans
Day Memorial Service:
will be held on Saturday, November
7th from 12 noon to 1:30pm at the Memorial site. It will not be on
November
11th, which will allow us to participate in the ?Veterans Day Parade.
4. Event Announcement: “Returning Veterans
Involved in the Criminal Justice System” (This pertains to the Veterans
Court/Alternative Sentencing Initiative)
Date:
Saturday, September 12th
Time: 8:00 am –
2:30 pm,
Location: California Western School of
Law.
This training is open to criminal justice practitioners
(judges, prosecutors, public defenders, probation, law enforcement, etc)
and veteran service providers and agencies.
The purpose of this
training is to educate the criminal justice community about the challenges
facing Returning Veterans Involved in the Criminal Justice System,
effective treatment services available to OEF/OIF veterans, and the
development of a coordinated response to the particular problems
presented.

5. Volunteer Opportunity: Joe Foss
Institute Seeks Veterans to Speak in Schools -- The Joe Foss Institute
fosters patriotism through patriotic speaking engagements in schools from
kindergarten to post-secondary. The institute recruits honorably
discharged veterans to serve as speakers and also contacts the schools to
schedule the talks. Veterans can learn more about the Joe Foss Institute

volunteer speaker at: http://www.jfiweb.org/foss/?action=gid_65. Joe Foss
was a leading Marine ace during WWII. He received the Medal of Honor for
his heroism under fire and later became a brigadier general in the Air
National Guard, governor of South Dakota, and commissioner of the American
Football League.
6. Navy Cross
Awarded: A 20-year-old Marine was awarded one
of the Navy’s highest awards for
valor during a ceremony Thursday at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat

7. Event Announcement:
The Veterans
Museum and Memorial
Center will host the Philippine
Liberation Gala Dinner on 19 September 2009, from 4:00 to 9:00pm, at the
Catamaran Hotel in Pacific
Beach. The Gala
will
recognize the Filipino Veterans who served during the invasion, occupation
and
liberation of the Philippines
in WWII. These Veterans, who fought with the
United
States in World War II, were finally
granted
Veteran status by an Act of Congress at the end of 2008. Please
join
with us and other WWII veterans of the Philippine Campaigns to celebrate
the
liberation of the Philippines
in 1945.
The
program will include
remarks by Congressman Bob Filner, Col Edwin Ramsey, USA/Ret, who led the
last
combat cavalry charge in US
history while participating in the defense of Bataan, and remained in
the Philippines
to lead a guerilla campaign throughout the occupation. Additionally,
Mr.
David Valley, a noted Douglas MacArthur re-enactor, will present General
MacArthur's speech upon his return to the Philippines.
Dinner,
Dancing and a
Silent Auction to raise funds for the Museum are also
included.
