The Veterans Community Action Coalition (VCAC)

You may have heard about the Veterans Community Action Team (VCAT). VCAT has become VCAC the Veterans Community Action Coalition. Its purpose is to serve veterans by helping to improve the delivery of services to veterans by coordinating, communicating, and facilitating cooperation between and among organizations. It is not intended to compete with any existing organization.

Earlier this year a number of prominent veterans' advocates in San Diego County partnered with the Altarum Institute (AI) and formed a steering committee to plan a study about how to improve the delivery of services to veterans in San Diego County. A non-profit organization itself, the Altarum Institute allocated a large sum (it DID NOT receive a grant) to fund this study in two locations, San Antonio, TX and San Diego County, both selected because of each has a relatively large number of veterans in the area and each has at least a basic foundation of resources for the partnership.

Over the summer the Steering Committee and (AI) planned a Veterans Leadership Forum, which occurred on 28 September, with substantial support of AI. Four of the attached documents pertain to the Veterans Leadership Forum: the handout, notes, feedback, and action plan. Based on those documents, the Steering Committee and AI developed a charter and formed the "Veterans Community Action Coalition," (VCAC) comprising several working groups, adding membership to increase representation of various constituencies to both VCAC and the various working groups.

The fifth document is the charter, which will be governing document to guide operations henceforth. We consider it a working document that may change to suit the needs of VCAC and the veterans, veterans service providers, and veterans service organizations we support, those who are its constituency, its customers.

We of the VCAC look forward to working with and serving you toward accomplishing our goals and we will keep you informed of our progress.

Please contact me with questions or comments. Tom Richards, VCAC Co-Chairman
