Hi everyone! I hope that your spring breaks all went well. I am just
now in the middle of my schools spring break. On Wednesday of last
week, I was helping my teacher with her drama class, they had a lot of
work to do before spring break. Some of the students needed to finish
printing tickets for the play and asked me to write a note to thier
teacher. It took them a long time to come back and when I asked them
why, they told me that thier teacher would not accept my letter
because it was not "official", I was a 'student' teacher. They had to
hunt down the regular teacher who was in a conference all day at the
school and ask her to write them a note. I wonder if he would have
accepted it from a sub? Needless to say, I was hurt by this. I have
struggled to gain the respect of the students and feel like this could
have been a huge set back. My only saving grace is that not many
students (if any at all) respect or value this teacher. Anyhow, I was
wondering if anyone else has had to deal with issues like this? This is
the only teacher who has questioned my authority, hopefully it will be
the only time this happens.

Thanks for letting me vent, it's spring break, I'm getting over it.
Hope you are all doing well!

Amy

Hi Amy,  My impression is that this particular teaching might show that behavior to anyone.  Don't take it personally.  There are always going to be teachers/ administrators/ secretaries like that.  If it is important, like a student getting in trouble over it, then you can do something about it.  If it isn't forget it.  It isn't worth your energy to take on that battle.  There will be many such incidences in your teaching career.  Choose your battles wisely.
People like that never lose an opportunity to cause trouble to others, anyone!  I've always wondered how they have so much time for causing trouble!
For your own clarification, you might check with the principal, to see if you are indeed, "official."  A word from the boss might help another student teacher in the future.

Hey Amy,
Ditto on what Judy said...You can also look at the undesirable behavior as a trait you'd never want to develop. Or you could start writing your memoirs entitling the first chapter, "A Day in the Life of Student Teacher"!!!

Could I have a signed copy?
