The loans that are on my credit are from 1985, and I only owe about $2000, which is kicked up to $6000 with interest. The school I attended back then actually closed and they forgave some of, but not all of the loan. I filed for bankruptcy in 2000 but the loan still remains. I have not benefited from attending school with the loans.

This is nothing but highway robbery.

Anita, are your loans private or government?  You might want to start a file with the student loan case worker at your Congressman's office.  Also did you write to the credit agencies and tell them to remove that loan since they are only supposed to keep things on record for seven years?

I have loans from 1994 and they are now 17 ears old. Maybe student
loans don't apply to the 7 year rule. I went from 37,000 to 150,000.00.
They are still coming after me. Nothing I can do.

I still say it's worth starting a file with your student loan case worker with your Congressman but the case remains, we need to get our legislators to reinstate basic consumer protection like bankruptcy protection.  It's a desperately needed check on predatory lending.  I'm personally concerned about the emotional toll of the relentless pursuit by creditors, the depression and hopelessness.  Psychiatrists and mental health advocates should look at this huge area of practice and take it seriously, prescribing anti-depressants and medication for post traumatic stress and anxiety.

I do not know who told you that loans only stay on your credit for 7 years.  All Student Loans stay on your credit forever!!!!  This is why I am suing in Federal Court here in Brooklyn NY.  In the last 7 years that I got involved with student loan justice, I have not seen one student helped out of their mess.  Everyone has ignored me also.  Fraud was committed against me and now they are afraid because I brought an action against them that they cannot escape from.  As long as all of you continue to stay alone and do not come together, nothing will ever be done.  You will live a life like me with no credit.  This is now 13 years of my life gone.  I do not care, I will not give in.  They will never get a dime from me.  Take your federal student loans and get income sensitive repayment.  Call the Dept of Ed and get the application.  None of you has the problem I have.  I had the lendor committ fraud and illegally change the loan and then lie and say that they changed it back for years.   So I am not letting them get away with their behavior.  The Judge in my case is delaying because he knows Im right.  Eventually he will have to admit that I am right.  I spent years digging up the laws, evidence, and no judge will be able to rule against me because if he does that will open the door to the Supreme Court.  I intend to go right to the top.  I have learned how to live with no credit.  That is the first step. Learn to live.  Start your own business.  Stop feeling sorry for yourself.  At least you have a legit loan.  Mine was illegal from the start.

Wow you are an amazing woman and I back you all the way.
We need a class action lawsuit which I've tried.  They've taken 230 amonth from my SSDI check now
since 2008 no one knows where the money went and it's on my credit.  I just know that with your determination and vigor
2013 will bring you out of this then everyone will come running to you for advice.
Succes to You

Part of my loan was not legitimate and it took over 14 years to get it off of my credit. They forged my name to the document and I never saw a dime of that money. The school closed it's doors with no warning. When I complained to the State they did nothing.

Anita, the USDoE has a discharge for "unpaid refund of tuition due"--they are at 50 Beale Street in San Francisco, that's one office, they call it the office of entitlement.  Did you start a file with a case worker at your legislator's?
