Is this typical for the competition to change the versions of applications merely a month away from the event?  I can't speak for other teams but I could see a situation in which the systems have already shipped to Denver.  This seems like a very whimsical approach to the software stack.  Also, what kind of QA testing goes into a new release?  Are the organizers confident that this new version will be supported on the hardware that the student teams will be bringing?  Will an older version be sufficient for submission of results?

If you didn't catch it, I'm somewhat frustrated in the all-of-a-sudden announcement.  Nonetheless, we will be ready and much to my frustration this is real-life exposure for the students as apps frequently change in our domain.

Hi Stephen,

I understand the frustration with the late announcement. I apologize, but unfortunately, it was necessary in this case.

If v2.2 worked on your hardware, the newer version should still compile and run successfully. Both versions were tested on local hardware, and no issues were found.

I am working with the Application Specialist to include a detailed description on the instructions of the differences, and what alternatives are available in cases were output might differ.

FWIW, for reasons that will become clear at the competition, the Application Specialist did include setup time as part of all the tasks that you will complete.

Best,
Verónica
