Networked Silences Symposium 6-7 Oct [reminder]: Symposium and workshop about the missing environmental communication on algorithmic platforms

Dear colleagues,

 

This is a reminder for a symposium connecting algorithm studies and other research focusing on the digital with concerns for environmental issues. The symposium happen 6-7 Oct in Uppsala and is funded as part of Mistra Environmental Communication.

 

The event brings together researchers, the public sector and civil society from across Sweden to discuss what's lost when environmental crises are increasingly negotiated through algorithmically mediated spaces. Symposium and academic workshop are dedicated to understanding the networked silences created by algorithmic platforms, because social media, search engines, and recommender systems contribute not only to making things known, but also to obscuring them, to situating sustainable practices outside cultural norms, and to creating ignorance and doubt about legitimate environmental concerns.
