Evening space fans!

Apologies for cross-posting!

We are delighted to present our first space lunch seminar of the Spring Term this Wednesday 25th February @12.00-13.00CET. This time we welcome Dr Elena Cirkovic of Aarhus and Lapland universities who will be talking about "The Cosmolegal: Reimagining the Social for Earth-Space Systems"

Abstract, bio and Zoom link below:

"This presentation introduces the cosmolegal approach, which reimagines the Social as rooted in complex interactions between Earth systems and outer space. Drawing on complex systems science, posthuman theory, and plural ontologies the cosmolegal orients toward epistemic humility in face of radical uncertainties. The presentation demonstrates how this framework applies across disciplines, integrating insights from environmental science, legal theory, landscape architecture, and space studies to develop adaptive governance for cosmic-scale challenges.

BIOGRAPHY: Dr. Elena Cirkovic is a Researcher in the Department of Law at Aarhus University, Denmark, and a PhD Candidate (Arts and Design) the University of Lapland, Finland. She completed her PhD at Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, in 2010, and studied Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia. Her transdisciplinary research examines Earth-space system interactions through legal, artistic, and scientific lenses. She is a member of the BioArt Society, Helsinki. Her book The Law of Complex Earth and Outer Space Systems: The Cosmolegal Proposal (Routledge, 2025) develops frameworks for addressing environmental challenges across planetary and orbital scales."
