Good afternoon space fans!

We are delighted to present our next space lunch seminar of the Spring Term this time on Tuesday 14th April @1200-1300CET.  This time we welcome Sabine Winters from Utrecht University who will be talking about "From Input to Imagination: The Role of Imagination in Space Science”!  So please join us, tell all of your friends and colleagues too.  Shout it from the rooftops if necessary!  Abstract, Zoom details below:

Abstract:
A common assumption in philosophy is that scientific visualization primarily concerns representational accuracy, the construction of internal images that faithfully reflect reality. However, in space science, where many phenomena cannot be directly observed or experimentally tested, visualization serves a significantly broader role. As illustrated by interview-based examples, scientists employ imaginative imagery not only to enhance accuracy, but also to explore possibilities, generate constraints, stimulate new ideas, sustain motivation, and reason through complex problems. This presentation argues that visualization functions as a flexible, creative, and multi-purpose tool within scientific practice.
My biography:

She is currently writing a book about imagination and the cosmos, to be published by Ten Have Publishers in June 2027.
