Sadly Circa is no more, but as an early experiment in structuring journalism it was very influential and broke much new ground.

As the many post mortems are published over the next few weeks I’m going to try to post links here. Hopefully the nascent structured journalism community can extract every tiny little bit of understanding available from Circa’s experience and apply that in future projects. Please add any interesting analysis you find, and any comments you have. Thank you Circa for the valiant effort.

Facebook wasn't the first of its kind. I think we'll see more iterations of this approach.

Casey Newton from The Verge: Why Circa Failed   http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/24/8842009/why-circa-failed

This is well worth reading. It's thoughtful, direct and quite critical of many aspects of structured journalism.

More from David Cohn on Circa and structured journalism generally...

It's a very good piece, and I'll aim to comment on it.  Plus, here's a broader piece on Circa I wrote the other day:

Reg, I thinks that's a great point about finding unoccupied fields. In fact, we don't even need traditional journalists covering the same thing unless they are giving some unique perspective or fact. It's not lack of voice so much as as lack of adding new value.

Another blog post on Circa, mostly from a business POV and following the 'structured but dull' meme...
