Is there a step-by-step tutorial available for someone unfamiliar with district?

I have my files from structure and would like to produce plots in distruct/GhostView. I thought I could just go between the two programs with the corrected files needed, but the more I read these message boards, the more it looks like you have to go from structure -> harvester -> clumpp -> distruct, is that correct?

Also, this is all very unfamiliar to me, I have both a mac and a pc, and I've read through the manual, but what I really need is something that shows me exactly how the code should look for everything run. Can you change the drawparams file to something new for your results, just use the -d option and it will work? I am familiar with writing code to use PLINK and EIGENSTRAT for analyses and am hoping these programs are similar. I'm sorry if my questions are confusing, I'm very confused myself?

Heather,

That pathway is what most people follow.  SH is extremely easy to use and you need not modify output files to use them with clumpp. Give it a try. Both Clumpp and Distruct have very good user manuals. I recommend Mac/Linux if you have access to one.

For any specific questions, we are here to help.

Thank you, the programs were actually very easy to run as soon as I realized what was going on. I was able to run everything through clumpp and distruct. When I convert the ps file to pdf or jpg, the image is only showing one population while I have 12 that should be displayed. Do I need to adjust the x-axis, or is there something wrong with my files/code? Attached are the files if it helps (I put the drawparams code in a text doc because it wouldn't let me attach the actual file). Thank you for any and all help.

Heather:

Yes you need to play with the x/y parameters, orientation, and individual width to get the figure to fit on one page.  There were no line breaks in the names files.  I will email you the fixed archive with the updated pdf off the list.  A comparison of drawparams and names files between that and the ones you have will help you understand what was wrong.
