Hello all,

Apologies in advance for adding my query to what seems to be a commonly raised problem. I'm setting up a new project (using Structure 2.3.4) and getting the following error message:

Bad format in data source.
Data entries are more than expected (11) at line 1

This is followed by:
The data file is expected to have the following format:
1 row with 5 entries (marker name)
74 rows with 11 entries (data)

As far as I can tell, my data file is in the format required. In my text file, I manually removed the extra space at the end of each line, just to be sure. I understand that some text editors are better than others, and Vim is mentioned a lot, but there doesn't appear to a version for a 10.9 Mac (Mavericks).

I'd be happy to provide the file and data input parameters if it helps.

Thanks,

Doug Graham

Sounds like an end of line character problem.  Vim works with Mavericks.  Commandline version should be included (type: vim data.str in a terminal) with the OS.  Graphical version is available on Vim's website.

Thanks Vikram. I downloaded the MacVim for Mavericks. From within Vim, I opened the aforementioned text file, there didn't seem to be anything fishy about it, and I saved it with a new name. Was I supposed to do something else? Unfortunately, I still get the same format error message.

Hello Doug!

I've been using the front-end version of Structure 2.3.4  in Mavericks with no problem.
I usually use TextWrangler as my predefined text editor - just save the file in Windows (CRLF) format and it should work smoothly.
Also, be sure not to have spaces included in the markers names (they can be alpha-numerical but with no spaces).

Hope this is helpful!

Carla

Doug,

Since you are on OSX, do one of the following when the file is open in Vim.

:set ff=unix
:set ff=mac

Then save and exit
:wq

Vikram, I'm still having no success. Might I send you the file (it's only 75 lines, 11 columns)? If so, how does one attach files here? Sorry to be such a newbie.

Sure. You can use your email software (gmail, outlook, thunderbird etc.) to attach the file as you would with anything else.  If you want, email the file to me directly.

Was there ever a solution to this feed? I have come across the same problem.

Structure reads as "32 Lines with 10 Columns", but if you click the 'finish' button, it gives the error message "The data file is expected to have the following format: 32 rows with 10 entries (data)".

Therefore, I am interested in the solution to the question above.

Thank you,
-John
