Dear Dual Degree students,

Next semester one of our Professors has expressed an interest in offering either one of the following two electives, but not both. The two electives are:

High Rise Structures
Structural Health Montoring and Control

Since we are not sure which elective to offer, and since we cannot offer both, I thought I would seek your opinion on the matter.

If you strongly prefer to be taught one of the electives listed above to the other, please let me know by 9 a.m. Monday, 4 November 2013.
I am listing below the syllabus of each of the electives. We will make our decision taking into account (but not based on) what most students prefer.

Thank you,

Arghya Deb

I did not ask Sir about the faculty ... last year High Rise was taught by N Dhang....  dont know abt the 2nd course....
In the second course however u would be acquainted with a lot of empirical and experimental formulations and techniques regrding structural health.. ( thats what Sir told me)

I have a gut feeling which says that, "STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING AND CONTROL" can be taken up by BBN.

So, the choice is very obvious ;) :P

Friends, Structural Health Monitoring most probably will be taught by Barai Sir, as it is his field of research. In case it's not being taught by him or BBN (accordiing to venky's gut feeling), it's a pretty practical and easy subject as is evident from the syllabus as compared to the typical theroetical  structural analysis stuffs in High Rise Structure.
Also what if High rise structures is not being taught by Dhang ?

BOTH the subjects are to be taugh by Prof. Dhang.....     As A.Deb said,"Health Monitoring has a lot of empirical studies and formulae, it might also have inverse problems( not sure )"..... Give in you final comments soon.. preferably by 2.30 pm

according to me , health monitoring research oriented subject he jisme acche khase log PhD karte he .. very promising field ..
high rise practical subject he ... shayad future me kaam aa jae ..
koi PhD ke bareme soch raha ho aur special interest ho to bol do .. nahi to high rise thik rahega ..
