Active Teacher Watchdogs, Next week is the last week for voting in this pivotal election. We need to go all out. It's important that active teachers spread the word each other to vote for Pat Davidson.
STRS Management has lately been painting a rosy picture in their most recent press releases. You'd think you have it good. For instance, they share the average STRS Retiree receives an annual pension benefit of about $46,000 and will receive 77% of the average of their five highest years. They tell you the average OPERS Retiree receives about $31,000 and the average STRS Retiree receives about $18,000. This supposed to make you feel you have it good, forget you educational level, forget you are giving them 14% of your salary, forget you need to work 5 years longer and forget there isn't a COLA in your future.
What STRS management doesn't share is the average STRS Employee earns over $137,000, when the bonuses are included, and their pension average will be around $107,000 because they will receive 78.5% when they retire after 35 years and they will receive the average of their three highest years. Because they won't be retired from the pension they "manage," they'll be retiring from OPERS. Incidentally, they also will receive a COLA.
