Hey advocates! Join us for a community conversation hosted by Strong Towns Columbus as we explore what it really means for a city to be financially resilient. Using the Strong Towns Financial Decoder framework, we’ll discuss how to go beyond short-term budget balancing to assess long-term sustainability, flexibility, and vulnerability.
Date: Monday, May 12
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: The MAIN Library (Room 3B) – Note: This is NOT our normal meeting location
Cities across North America face serious financial challenges, but the tools we typically use to assess city budgets often fail to tell the whole story. Traditional year-to-year budget reports focus on whether revenues match expenses, but they rarely answer the deeper question: Can we sustain what we’ve built?
Dean Smith, CPFO, the City of Columbus Assistant City Auditor, will join us to break down the Columbus municipal budget and uncover what the numbers tell us about our future.
Let’s examine how past choices shape our present challenges and how we can build a more resilient financial foundation for future generations.
