Hi guys,

I'm sure you are all aware of the Self language. In the last year or so
I have been working on bringing it back into life as a community driven
open source project by putting sources on Github at
github.com/russellallen/self, creating the selflanguage.org website and
so on.

The Self VM is a large-ish C++ codebase that compiles on reasonably
recent versions of GCC on Linux and on Mac OS X. It would compile on the
latest versions of each of those with a little work. My experience has
been that the VM is quite fast and reasonably stable; my primary
interest in it is as a base for running the Self language.

I'm looking for someone with experience in C++ and a desire to work on
a high performance virtual machine to do some paid work on the Self VM.
Experience of Cocoa would be also highly desirable. The work would be
casual and would, at least to begin with, involve cleaning up the
existing source tree and ensuring easy compilation on Linux and on Mac
OS X. The results would be released as Open Source under the normal
MIT-like Self licence. More interesting changes might be possible as a
next step after that, time and money depending.

So if you, or someone you know, has the skill and interest in this area
and some spare time (!) please get in contact with me,

Cheers,

Russell

thanks for this - will get back to you if someone turns up as under-employed as me in C++
