Stephen,

Was on Google Earth and I see the discrepancy we had over the naming of the spot that Wayne was fishing.  On the Cape Cod Atlas, it is referred to as Mill Pond with a tributary up to a small Taylor’s Pond.  On Google Earth the pond that Wayne fished is referred to as Taylors Pond.  Not sure which is correct but it explains why you and I went round and round about it.

Hope you had a good flight out to Seattle and have a great conference.  Having waited so long for the Striperhead, I am in a bit of a depression now that it is over.  Poor fishing or not, I enjoyed myself as much with this trip as in any other year.  Thank you for your hospitality.

Mowing lawns, shopping for a sport jacket and pants.  Have to give a talk at Johnson State College next week and am being honored at the Norwich homecoming weekend.  My wife wants me to look nice.  I already look nice, I think she means “nicer”.

More later.

What a great fish !!! Probably a once in a lifetime fish.. It sounds like the trip is a great success. However I did not see any posts about the fishing at the cape. Was the fishing kinda poor as usual ??

Hi Ron,

While I was there fishing was very patchy. Wayne and I managed to catch
a few Stripers on the Tuesday evening at very low tide in the dark. We
tried again to do the same thing a couple of nights later but apart from
a couple of hits (mostly to Wayne) nothing. We did see False Albacore
within casting distance at the end of Forest Beach.

Brewster Flats as changed alot since the last time I fished it. The
outer channel is now largely parallel with the shore, about a mile out!
No channel by the orange buoy but there was an area of water to the
right once the tide had gone out.

Seriously thinking of a June trip.

Hey Spinta,

Nice fish. What did you get it on?

Any thoughts on printing it?

Welcome to Rachael.

Ashley, Fishing has not been very good for a number of years now, However I have been going in June for a few years now, and have been doing very well. However I have been fishing with John in his boat. We still are wading the flats, but the boat gives you great access to find fish before you anchor and start wading..So I think June is a great idea !! Couldn't make the trip this year, so missed all you guys,,,

Hi Ron,

Another email I meant to reply to weeks ago.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a June trip.
Splinta is keen for me to fish the Catskills' Greendrake hatch at the
same time.

There is definitely more fish in June. And if you have the time you could fish the green drakes in the Catskills, if you hit it right. The Catskill fishing is very finicky, depending on water levels, weather etc. But it can be very good if you hit it right...

right now I am considering Sunday May 29th thru Sat June 4th for the
Cape at Shame-crowell (maybe nickerson - especially if we want to do any
fresh water fishing in the ponds)

followed by Sunday June 5 thru June 11 in the Catskills ....

arrival of the drakes can be iffy and sometime are hatching at night,
but there is an almost positive guarantees for insect presence....
influenced but what the weather is doing... but usually is always good
fishing to be had

the first week of June

Fishing in the Catskills can be very good but it is not guaranteed by any means and has become a crapshoot just as it is at the cape. Precipitation amounts, water levels, weather (hot sunny weather) all have a major effect. yOu just have to take your chances...
