Team,

We have been wondering about the standings for quite a while so I wanted to let you know why they say what they do (though I really disagree with the forumla, it is what it is).

Wins = 1 point
ties = .5 points
forfeits = -.75 points
losses = 0 points

I don't understand why a forfeit counts as a -.75 point but that's what the rules say when I found this formula in the WAKA Division Tournament Guidelines:

Win Percentage = [W + (T/2) – (F*.75)] / GP

So plugging in our numbers we have:
(4 - .75)/7 = 3.25/7 = 0.46

So our winning percentage comes out as 46% instead of what we expected which would be 57% based on our 4 win 3 loss record.

It appears that there is an intentional deterrent to forfeiting built into the formula.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

"Two of the wisest men I have had the fortune to know are both devout men of God, both clerics in God's service, and both grow more liberal with every candle added to their birthday cake. Both managed to become financially secure, while paying taxes, tithing (yes, a full 10% of their gross), and (in one case), rising from poverty and raised by foster parents. Both lived through the last Great Depression. I choose to follow the example of these men: men of faith, men of character, liberals." Ed Dorsey

Yes - I thought that was a natural thing since you were, you know, losing :O)  I didn't think we really needed additional an deterrent
