Folks,

Just got this question from my (excellent) Physical Therapist, Pam Norton:

I have another client who is in his early 70s and relatively novice but looking for local biking trails. He specifically wants areas that he can do mountain type biking that could include elevation- do you know of any such places? He is not as interested in doing long, flat rides like Cap Cresent or Beach Dr. trail. He noted he's happy to drive to find it, but maybe not 2 hours/away.

Any suggestions?

These are some of my favorites close to DC:

Muddy Branch Trail: https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/4511609/muddy-branch-to-co-canal-to-seneca-ridge-trail. ( Very Nice and Flowy ride)

Moco Loop- https://www.trailforks.com/route/moco-mid-county-loop/  (Combo of the two and long day)

My favorite place near me is Wakefield Park, just north of Braddock Road immediately west of the Beltway.  It connects to Lake Accotink Park, which also has trails.

Fountainhead Regional Park, above the Occoquan Reservoir off 95 south of the Beltway, has very well designed and maintained single track trails.  Even the green ones are pretty challenging, though.

Cool! I'll send these recommendations along.

Thanks,
