Subject: Parks are for people. Some park roads should be too.

Hi Gregg,
Over the past year, just under 4 miles of upper Beach Drive has been closed to through car traffic and open to people walking, biking, rollerblading, and actively experiencing Rock Creek Park seven days a week. During the public health emergency, which pushed people inside and away from others, upper Beach Drive has been abuzz with people safely staying active, keeping healthy, and supporting their mental health.
Now, with the public health emergency (hopefully) drawing to an end, we think that upper Beach Drive should remain open to people, but stay closed to car commuting. WABA has been working closely with the People’s Alliance for Rock Creek (PARC), on strategy, counting park users, and lining up support from organizations and key elected leaders.
Now, it's your turn. Will you sign PARC’s petition to keep upper Beach Drive closed to through cars and open to people?
Curious which part of Beach Drive exactly? Here’s a map. For the past 12 months, NPS extended the typical weekend Beach Drive closures to weekdays too, and the proposal is to keep this plan in place. Lower Beach Drive, most park crossings, and picnic areas would remain accessible by car as they are today.
Have more questions? Browse the maps and Frequently Asked Questions here. Then be sure to sign the petition and share it with others.
Thanks for your support,
Garrett Hennigan
