Hey all,

I'm trying to use stressapptest to test server memory. I'm in the market to run 56 instances of this program, one per core in my server, with an equal balanced load of system memory dispersed between them.

What's the best way to run this?

It's multithreaded, so one instance will run on all cores.

I'd recommend "stressapptest -W -s 120", it will automatically detect the number of cores and the amount of memory.

"-s" indicates runtime in seconds (whatever you prefer) and "-W" indicates "warm" for higher cpu and memory utilization, which often will find more errors.

You can explicitly specify the number of threads with -m $(THREADS) and the memory with -M $(MBYTES) if you like.

FYI if you run stressaptest on memory mapped flash, it's high enough bandwidth that it can often wear out the flash quite quickly, so it's worth checking wear rating vs reported bandwidth if you find yourself doing this.
