Un ritorno alle origini del celebre franchise RESIDENT EVIL. Il regista e fan della saga Johannes Roberts riapre i giochi per un’intera e nuova generazione di appassionati. In Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, quella che un tempo era la sede del colosso farmaceutico Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City, è ora una città morente del Midwest. L’esodo della compagnia ha trasformato la città in una landa desolata con un grande male che si annida sotto la superficie. Quando questo male viene liberato, un gruppo di sopravvissuti dovrà collaborare per scoprire la verità dietro la Umbrella Corporation e restare in vita.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City è un film horror del 2021 diretto da Johannes Roberts. Il settimo film della serie live-action di Constantin Film, questo film sarà un reboot ambientato in una nuova continuità separata dall'universo precedente supervisionato dallo sceneggiatore e regista Paul W.S. Anderson che si è concluso con Resident Evil: The Final Chapter del 2017.

Il film sarà un adattamento sia di Resident Evil che del suo sequel e prenderà in prestito elementi dai giochi originali e dai remake moderni. Il film sarà interpretato da Robbie Amell, Hannah John-Kamen, Avan Jogia, Kaya Scodelario, Tom Hopper e Neal McDonough.

L'esodo di una potente compagnia farmaceutica (L'Umbrella Corporation) ha trasformato la tranquilla ed industrializzata cittadina di Raccon City, in un luogo abbandonato, ricco di misteri e dai contorni apocalittici. Quando un grande male che si annida nelle profondità cittadine viene liberato, un gruppo di sopravvissuti dovrà collaborare per scoprire la verità dietro agli esperimenti del colosso e restare in vita.

Il cast del film include Hannah John-Kamen (Jill Valentine), Tom Hopper (Albert Wesker), Kaya Scodelario (Claire Redfield), Neal McDonough (William Birkin), Robbie Amell (Chris Redfield), Avan Jogia (Leon S. Kennedy), Donal Logue (Chief Brian Irons), Lily Gao (Ada Wong), Chad Rook (Richard Aiken), Marina Mazepa (Lisa Trevor), Stephannie Hawkins, Nathan Dales, Josh Cruddas, Janet Porter, Dylan Taylor, Holly de Barros e Sammy Azero.

Si tratta di un adattamento e reboot cinematografico della saga videoludica di Capcom, in particolare di Resident Evil (1996) e Resident Evil 2 (1998) ed è il settimo film dedicato alla saga, in seguito ai film diretti da Paul W. S. Anderson. Il cast è composto da Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Donal Logue, Neal McDonough e Lily Gao.

Lo sviluppo è avvenuto all'inizio del 2017, dopo l'uscita di Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, con il produttore James Wan che ha espresso interesse per il progetto. Più tardi, il presidente della Constantin Film Martin Moszkowicz ha dichiarato che era in fase di sviluppo un reboot della serie di film. Nello stesso mese, Wan è stato chiamato a produrre il reboot con una sceneggiatura di Greg Russo; successivamente, Roberts è stato assunto sia come sceneggiatore che come regista e sia Wan che Russo hanno lasciato il progetto. Le riprese sono iniziate il 17 ottobre 2020 a Greater Sudbury, in Canada.

Durante un'intervista con IGN nel marzo 2021, Roberts ha affermato di voler dare al film un tono più oscuro:

"La cosa più importante per me in questo film è il tono. Quello che mi è piaciuto dei giochi è che erano semplicemente spaventosi, ed è molto di quello che volevo, quell'atmosfera. Piove costantemente, è buio, è spaventoso, Raccoon City è una città marcia", ha detto. "Volevo mescolarlo con un lato divertente, specialmente con lo stile narrativo del primo gioco. Ci siamo divertiti molto, abbiamo anche usato gli angoli fissi che ha il primo gioco quando i personaggi si trovano nella Magione Spencer."

Ispirato ai film di John Carpenter, tra i quali Halloween - La notte delle streghe, Distretto 13 - Le brigate della morte e The Fog - Nebbia assassina, il regista ha spiegato che la storia delle origini è divisa tra due luoghi principali: la Magione Spencer (l'ambientazione del primo gioco) e il Dipartimento di polizia di Raccoon City, apparso per la prima volta in Resident Evil 2:

"[Il remake del secondo gioco] è stata una meravigliosa esperienza cinematografica con il tono, l'oscurità costante, la pioggia, l'aspetto del gioco e appena l'ho visto ho detto sì, questo è il mondo in cui voglio lavorare", ha affermato Roberts. "Abbiamo scelto il tono per il remake del secondo gioco e ne abbiamo fatto il nostro modello per questo film".

All'inizio del 2020 era in corso il casting, ritardato poi a causa della Pandemia di COVID-19. Nell'aprile 2020, Full Circle Cinema ha riferito che lo studio stava pensando a Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario e Harris Dickinson per i ruoli dei fratelli Chris e Claire Redfield e Leon S. Kennedy.

Il 6 ottobre 2020 Deadline Hollywood ha riferito che Scodelario e Hannah John-Kamen erano stati scelti come Claire Redfield e Jill Valentine, insieme a Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia e Neal McDonough rispettivamente nei ruoli di: Chris Redfield, Albert Wesker , Leon Scott Kennedy, e William Birkin. Il reboot è ambientato nel 1998. Quel novembre, Donal Logue è stato scelto per interpretare il capo della polizia di Raccoon City Brian Irons, insieme a Chad Rook come Richard Aiken e Lily Gao come Ada Wong. 

Le riprese principali sono iniziate a Greater Sudbury, in Canada, il 17 ottobre 2020 con Maxime Alexandre in qualità di direttore della fotografia. Le riprese sono state completate il 24 dicembre 2020. Nel marzo 2021 Roberts ha rivelato il titolo completo del film: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Nel maggio 2021 Amell ha rivelato che alcune scene erano in rifacimento a Toronto. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City verrà distribuito negli Stati Uniti il 24 novembre 2021. Il film era inizialmente previsto per il 3 settembre 2021, ma venne rimandato prima al 9 settembre 2021 e poi al 24 novembre a causa della pandemia di COVID-19, mentre in Italia dal 25 novembre. Il divieto Rated R, come confermato dalla MPAA, sarà applicato alla pellicola. Come già anticipato dal regista della pellicola Johannes Roberts, il nuovo adattamento della serie di videogame sarà completamente diverso da quello del precedente regista, Paul W.S Anderson, uscito nel 2002.

The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 1930s. Televised events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 19340 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 1948, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “”Mr Television”” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 4, 1951 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets.

The first national color broadcast (the 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 1, 1954. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 1965, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 19402, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completely all-color network season.

Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional MOVIE). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.

A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television MOVIE to have this kind of dramatic structure, while the later MOVIE Babylon 5 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intendevd five-season run.

In 2012, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film. Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 2012, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “”I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television.
