Hello,

I am kinda confuse regarding terms of use data from Strava at this moment.

As a student, I am working on a research project that need to use some of the user training data for training a marathon time prediction model.

But from the Term of Use statement, it says:

"You may not process Strava Data, including in an aggregated or de-identified manner, for the purposes of, including but not limited to, analytics, analyses, customer insights generation, and products or services improvements. Strava Data may not be combined with other customer data, for these or any other purposes. "

But I'd see research that use Strava data to perform similar analytics, such as this:

The footnote on the paper indicated:
"Data, inpart, provided by Strava under limited research license."

I am just wondering, as a student, what is the proper procedure to ask for data for academic purpose and I dont find any information regarding "research license" on the site. How can average user/student can attain such license, and what is the cost.

Anyone have provide any info on this?

Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

Did you ever get any traction on this request? Were you able to proceed with your planned research? I'm also looking to do some pacing analyses using Strava data but unclear on whether I'm legally allowed to do so or not.

Regards,
Simon
