Hi everyone!

As you probably know, the project is currently entering the Apache Incubator.

Because there is already a project called "Apache Stratos", we decided to vote on a new name. There were multiple good candidates. In the end, the committers and mentors decided for "Flink". It is a work that means "swift" and "agile" in German.

The name still has to be cleared by the Apache Foundation (Trademark searches, etc). Unless anything comes up there, Stratosphere will probably become Apache Flink in the near future.

Greetings,
Stephan

Current name sounds better. This sounds more like Frink who is a wacky Simpson's character.

Well, we definitely have to give up Stratosphere...
Flink was chosen by a community vote. We'll see if it passes the Apache trademark filter. Next in line would be Sfera.

Best,
Fabian

One thing to consider might be easy pronunciation also using syllables common to many spoken languages.

If you are Swedish its the name of a well known Murderer (wiki: Mattias Flink)

Besides that I actually prefer Flink as a name mostly because is shorter and easier to google. (Stratosphere brings much more high profile result)
