RE: Stratford Rail Station - Proposed Improvements
Dear Mr. Colonese:
The purpose of this letter is to respond to your letter of August 1,
2007 concerning the above referenced matter. In your letter, you were
seeking additional information on our proposed improvements. I will
follow the same format as my last letter with the additional
information.
1. Install new fencing around the exterior of the parking lots on both
the East and West Bound sides of the train tracks.
Estimated Cost: $117,665 - Please see attached proposals from A C
Fencing, Inc of North Haven, CT. Funding would come from the
Stratford Rail Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take three weeks to complete. This item is considered
a high priority.
Design Drawings: There are no drawings per se. The fencing will be
placed around the perimeter on the property line of both lots. Please
see attached proposal for type of fencing to be used.
Work Performed: This work will be done by A C Fencing, Inc.
2. Install signage to better identify parking rules, including daily
and permit parking areas.
This work was completed by the Town. Two signs, one at the entrance
of each lot, were installed in August by the Town Department of Public
Works explaining the parking rules.
3. Install a canopy on the West Bound platform to protect commuters
from the elements.
Estimated Cost: $33,120 - Please see attached proposal from Cove
Awning Company, LLC of Stamford, CT. Funding would come from the
Stratford Rail Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take one week to complete. This item is considered a
high priority.
Design Drawings: Please see attached specifications contained in the
proposal.
Work Performed: This work will be done by Cove Awning Company, LLC
4. Install better lighting throughout the platform and parking areas.
Estimated Cost: $14,301.25 - Please see attached proposal from Rexel
CLS of Stratford, CT. Funding would come from the Stratford Rail Road
Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take three weeks to complete. This item is considered
a high priority for Commuter safety.
Design Drawings: 32 Train Platform Lights will be installed equally
(16 per side) along both platforms. Flood lights will be installed in
both parking lots on existing poles.
Work Performed: Installation of the lighting will be done by the Town
of Stratford DPW Public Building Maintenance Department Electricians.
5. Remove the current guard shack located on the East Bound Side and
build a new guard shack in the same location. The current shack is in
horrendous condition. It is not weather tight, does not have heat and
is not sufficient in size.
Estimated Cost: $12,000 - Funding would come from the Stratford Rail
Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take three weeks to complete. This item is considered
a high priority.
Design Drawings: Please see attached drawings. A building permit will
be secured from the Stratford Building Official.
Work Performed: Construction shall be done by the DPW Public Building
Maintenance Department Carpenters.
6. Repair the commuter shelter on the West Bound Platform by
installing a new floor in said shelter.
Estimated Cost: $6,000 - Funding would come from the Stratford Rail
Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take one week to complete. This item is considered a
high priority to provide shelter for Commuters during inclement
weather.
Design Drawings: The DPW Public Building Maintenance Department will
remove the current asphalt floor and install a new floor with
necessary supports. A Building Permit from the Stratford Building
Official will be secured before commencing work.
Work Performed: Repair will be done by the Town of Stratford DPW
Public Building Maintenance Department Carpenters.
7. Repair the concession building (rot and other deterioration) on the
West Bound Side of the tracks.
Estimated Cost: $10,000 - Funding would come from the Stratford Rail
Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take one to two weeks to complete. This item is
considered a high priority due to the condition of the building.
Design Drawings: The DPW Public Building Maintenance Department will
remove the rotting wood and replace as necessary. A Building Permit
frm the Stratford Building Official will be secured before commencing
work.
Work Performed: Repair will be done by the Town of Stratford DPW
Public Building Maintenance Department Carpenters.
8. Repaint the yellow warning stripes on both platforms.
Estimated Cost: $1,000 - Funding would come from the Stratford Rail
Road Station Fund.
Schedule: Upon approval from DOT, work will commence immediately. It
is estimated to take one to two days to complete. This item is
considered a high priority due to the fact that the current yellow
stripes cannot be identified posing a safety risk to all commuters.
Design Drawings: The DPW Public Building Maintenance Department will
repaint the stripes
Work Performed: Painting will be done by the Town of Stratford DPW
Public Building Maintenance Department.

in more detail. As the Town considers all of these repairs crucial to
commuter safety, we would appreciate approval at your earliest
