Dear fellow Strategies WDK users,

The installation doc (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nZayjR-0Hj3YeukjfwoWZ3TzokuuuWvSwnhw_q41oeE/pub) has this as its last step:
  1. work with your system administrator to start up the application in Tomcat
Can somebody expand on that? What are the steps to install the WDK on Tomcat?

It involves the "deploy" section of the Tomcat Web Application Manager (as in the attached screen shot), right? What values should go in that form? Where should I look for any errors that result?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can give me,
John

Dear John,

I am sorry for the long delay.
Uehara-san, my colleague who installed the system, did not only use the installation instructions from version 2.
He thinks there's something missing to it...
However, he found the instructions for the version 1.22 useful (see attached file), in particular section "2.setup webapps".

When it comes to the Tomcat Web Application Manager, he doesn't use it, so we're not 100% what would be needed for that.
Our best guess is that:
  1. Context path is the URL of the page, in our case it is "/gus_home", from our test URL (http://fullent-dev.genome.ad.jp/gus_home/)
  2. The XML file is probably the configuration file for the model: /path/to/file/model-config.xml
  3. The WAR or Directory URL is probably location of your "GUS_HOME", i.e. the location of your configuration files.
I hope this is useful!
Let me know if you need more information, and I'll try to get a more details from Uehara-san.

Best regards,
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

With some local help, I did wind up getting a WDK template site running on PostgreSQL. I agree with your colleague: the doc doesn't cover all the steps. I wound up making a script to perform the steps of the installation. You can see it (and try it, if you like) in the Subversion repository:

The script defines ten or so variables at the top (for database login, et c.), then uses that info to write the half-dozen config files the site needs.

Hi John,

Sorry for the delay in my reply...
Thank you for this script, it helped us a lot!
The only detail was that we had to upgrade Java from 1.6 to 1.7. After that the WDK compiled fine!

Now we will be working on customizing the view :)

Best regards,
Nicolas
