Dear colleagues and experts travelling to the Africa Climate Week 2019,
On behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), we kindly invite you to join our discussion on
accelerating access to green cooling on Wednesday, 20th of March at 13:30 in the Committee Hall I.
Together with Perspectives Climate Group, this side event aims to discuss ways to incentivise the transformation of the refrigeration sectors in African countries through the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. In particular, mitigation of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) emissions that goes beyond the agreed phase-down schedule of the Kigali Amendment could be credited in the context of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This early action under the Paris Agreement would have the special effect of enhancing GHG mitigation ambition by “shaving” the HFC consumption and production baseline levels under the Kigali Amendment while accelerating the access to green cooling and contributing to sustainable development.
Side Event 4: Raising ambition and accelerating access to green cooling in Africa
20.03.2018 | 13.30 – 14:25 | Committee Hall I
· Bernhard Siegele (GIZ): The transition to a green cooling sector in Africa: challenges and opportunities
· Joseph Baffoe (Environmental Protection Agency, Ghana): Current and future emission trends of Ghana’s cooling sector
· El-Hadji Mbaye Diagne (Afrique Energie Environnement): The need for early action in the transition to green cooling
· Axel Michaelowa (Perspectives Climate Group): Raising ambition and harnessing synergies in Paris and Kigali implementation through markets
· Moubarak Moukaila (UNFCCC RCC Lomé): Developing standardized baselines for energy efficient refrigeration
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion with participants.
We are looking forward to your participation.
Kind regards,
GIZ Proklima & Perspectives Climate Group
