In 2016, Brighton Kaoma, climate leader and youth empowerment advocate won the WWF International President’s Youth Award during the WWF Annual Conference for his passion to educate, and broadcast youth voices on the environment. Brighton has since worked with WWF on Earth Hour and other youth initiatives, mentored several Africa Youth Award nominees, has and has met both Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II.
The WWF Annual Conference is coming back to Africa and so we are pleased to present to you yet another amazing opportunity to recognise African youth who have made significant contributions to society in advancing the conservation and sustainability agenda.
The WWF International President’s Youth Award will be presented at the WWF Annual Conference taking place in Mombasa, Kenya from 14 to 17 June 2019 and will acknowledge the achievements of exceptional people under the age of 30 in the field of conservation, from outside WWF. This award aims to connect us with young people working in the field, from the African continent and inspire other young people to also achieve great heights.
Who is eligible?
- The award is granted to an individual for achievements in biodiversity conservation outside the scope of an institutional mandate which improve the lives of local communities;
- Nominees should be young Africans under the age of 30 working in the field.
- Nominees should have made a significant contribution or innovative approach to conservation field work;
- WWF employees are not eligible for this award
We encourage candidates who belong to a youth network (eg. Scouts, YMCA, GYBN, school club), are team players and out of the box thinkers. Please find the guidelines and a list of past winners and the nomination form here. The deadline for nominating candidates is February 15.
Please send your submission via the google form.
Yours sincerely,
Fred Kwame Kumah
