to Strangeheads
The Strangelings have been booked to play Tunbridge, VT, on December
13 for a very special holiday show, their first show since the Philly
Folk Festival in August (which I missed) and the Strangelings' last
appearance of 2008.
Strangelings shows are few and far between! They feature exciting and
inspired playing by band members Pete Kennedy on electric sitar, Ken
Anderson on bass, Cheryl Prashker on drums, and Eric Lee on fiddle --
along with haunting and mesmerizing 3-part female vocal harmonies by
Maura Kennedy, Christina Thompson Lively, and Rebecca Hall, all three
of whom do lead vocals on featured songs.
Together, these 7 talented musicians weave textures of sheer beauty
and create an aura of mystery and excitement like no other band I
know.
Prior to this, my worst conflict ever was when Cadence Carroll's CD
release show in Rowayton CT conflicted with the Nields at the Iron
Horse. As the Nields #1 diehard fan, I chose the Nields that night
while virtually all of my friends, including Cone Head, Bernadette
Gallagher, Rebecca Derry, and Sheila Turner went to Cadence's CD
release show with the Kennedys.
The December 13 Strangelings show, conflicting as it does with what
was planned to be my 500th Nields show at the Iron Horse, constitutes
another terrible conflict for me.
The Strangelings play far fewer shows -- but I have never missed the
Nields at the Iron Horse since 1995 -- not even for Cadence Carroll's
CD Release Party!
If I try to attend the Strangelings show, it looks like a 2 hour and
40 minute drive from Northampton (where I will be camped out on the
sidewalk in the front of the line at the Iron Horse) to Tunbridge VT.
I might make it, but with a 7:30 show time for the Strangelings, I
expect to be about a half-hour late.
The Nields at the Iron Horse have rocked my world for 14 years from
1995 to 2008 -- but the Strangelings (who have only even existed as a
band for 2 years, from 2007 to 2008) if possible rock my world even
more!
