This is the conclusion -- Parts 1 & 2 are on my blog on Myspace.

==================================

"I see the mountain, the mountain comes to me
I see the mountain and that is all I see."

("The Mountain," Dave Carter)

==================================

"And when this mountain is all worn away
This to eternity shall be
Just one single day."

("Land of Oden," author unknown)

==================================

"Piece by piece the story falls in place
Step by step we climb the stairway of time
With each finding we embrace
The details of the great design.

The story's in the stones
It's clear to see the tale of history.

Just as kings and castles come to reign
Just as kingdoms fall
So it is with the hills and plains
In the greatest story of all.

The story's in the stones
It's clear to see the tale of history
All around me...

Men have tried to mirror nature's ways
To move mountains by hand
But all of the rivers and the rain
Move mountains as grains of sand.

The story's in the stones
It's clear to see the tale of history
In the geology."

("Geology," Chris & Meredith Thompson)

================================

Meredith doesn't do many shows with her sister these days, there
having been only a handful of Chris & Meredith Thompson appearances in
2008. Despite Meredith's having put music mostly on the back burner
these days due to other obligations, I thought she was as sharp as
ever at their show at the Stone Church Coffeehouse in Bristol RI.

Here's what Chris & Meredith played --

Wildest Sea
Lines of Longitude
Autumn Leaves
Harvest Moon
Tanglewood Tree
Old Man of the Mountain
Clearwater

Hallelujah
First Step
Prove It To Ya (for Bruce)
Wayfaring Stranger
Children
The Mountain
Katahdin
No Matter How You Twist It, It's Still a Horn
I'll Fly Away
If I Had a Hammer

They were joined on their last two songs by Michael Troy, who was the
opener.

I've been acutely aware of "history in the making" this past week, and
the Kennedys at Passim, the Nields at the Brattleboro Green, and Chris
& Meredith Thompson in Bristol RI have all contributed to this
impression. Each one of them are part of the "Greatest Story of All,"
details in the "Great Design" -- and I've been fortunate to be able to
witness the parts each of them are playing, first-hand. "Piece by
piece the story falls in place." "It's clear to see the tale of
history."

This history in the making has left its indelible marks in my soul,
like the cumulative effect of water in a gushing mountain stream, land
bursting at the seams, as even the mountaintop experiences, little by
little, are washed away into grains of sand.

"Mountains are growing right out of the ground
Rivers are flowing and tear it all down
And then it's gone and the river runs on..."
