Is this a known issue? Did I something wrong?

Did you install the right version of 0mq? You should make sure to install 2.1.7.

I was using a newer version, installed via "brew install zeromq"...

I uninstalled this version and did the following (using XCode 5.0.1, Mac OSX 10.9, Java 1.6.0_65):
$ cd storm
$ ./bin/install_zmq.sh
./bin/install_zmq.sh: line 2: JAVA_HOME: /usr/libexec/java_home: syntax error: operand expected (error token is "/usr/libexec/java_home")

Christian, did you ever resolve this?
I am trying to install 2.1.7 on mavericks and ran into something similar when I 'install' after a 'configure'

Making install in src

  CXX      libzmq_la-clock.lo

  CXX      libzmq_la-command.lo

  CXX      libzmq_la-ctx.lo

In file included from ctx.cpp:24:

In file included from ./ctx.hpp:32:

./semaphore.hpp:102:22: error: use of undeclared identifier 'pthread_mutex_init'

            int rc = pthread_mutex_init (&mutex, NULL);

I tried to download the latest xcode & command line tools along with pkg-config as others have hinted..  all to no avail.

any help appreciated - thanks

Robert

Robert,

If you are just trying to *build* storm on OSX and don’t intend to use OSX in a production cluster, you can get by with installing zeromq 2.1.9, which will build with homebrew on OSX 10.9.

Hope that helps.

- Taylor
