Looking for good "coming of age" stories.  I've read the A Golfer's Dream books by The Caddy, the Playing the Game series by the Rev. Cotton Mather, and am currently reading the newly published chapters in Nick Scipio's Summer Camp and Onagerian Surmise's Stormy Sequel.  These are all sports related as one might expect with many teen stories but the absence of sports is not a limitation.  Incest is not objectionable but certainly by no means a requirement.

I would appreciate all recommendations or suggestions.

The Trailer Park series by Wizard is well worth a read and easily up there as one of the best coming of ages stories.

G'day TK,

A lot depends on what you call coming of age because I've had some people apply that title to a few of my stories that I thought weren't, also do you want sex in them? Finding Home fits the category (in my mind) but Star Performance is often called that while I don't think it does. Some of my Rivers Region stories may be right but don't have sex. Anyway, here's some links so you can check out the blurbs etc. for a few of my stories and a few others.

Most all of Don Lockwood's stories could be considered to be "Coming of age" stories.

Several of aubie56's stories are about a young teen having to step up to do a man's job. Also FantasyLover's 'Lucky Jim', and to an extent, 'Lucky Jim II'.

That's how I saw my Catalyst series, about a young man not ready to grow up suddenly saddled with leading hundreds of people when he has no idea how to lead his own life.

Not quite coming of age, but that's an element in the series. (No sports whatsoever, though.)

I've seen several different definitions of COA stories. I agree with those listed so far. My own choices would also include:

Ordinary Sex Life Series - Bluedragon
Bosom Buddies - Bosom Buddies
Hook, Pick and Lens 1 and 2 - Ryan Salander (though more Rom to me)
Banner Year - Shrink42
Book of David - Bluedragon
Model Student 1, 2 and 3 - Aroslav
Stupid Boy - G Younger

I would be very interested in hearing what others think classifies a story in the COA category.

If I Had A Boat by Catman starts at age 12 and he winds up with all the money and girls. What else could you want?

The currently posting Ninth Grade by Banadin seems to fit.

Thank you all for your kind replies.  Your lists should keep me busy for quite sometime.

Yes! That's it. I hadn't realised he had changed names, so I thought he had scrubbed all his work until I remembered the title to search for it.

Actually, for those that don't remember or weren't with us yet, Frank is now teaching (English, I believe), and didn't want any casual searches to turn up his name as a writer here. Hence the name change on his work here.
