This story is complete now. Has anyone read it all and have an opinion about whether to read it? I started it but when it got extremely repetitive I quit. Then a reviewer came along and said he'd quit also but was glad that he'd picked it up. On the other hand, it seems like the scores have been dropping a bit lately, which isn't that easy to do with over 4,600 votes. The only reason I'd consider starting it back up it is because it has the highest number of readers on the site. Any advice?

With 3,224,419 downloads for 410 chapters posted over a 15 month period that's an average of 7,865 downloads per chapter, and that's assuming there's no read ahead or double reading over-counts involved. When you consider many single post short stories hit 10,000 downloads for the one chapter, it's a fair number of readers but not a huge number of readers.

JL,

Yeah, I read the story all the way through, and I enjoyed most of it. A couple of times I nearly quit, but I guess that I am just as stubborn as my wife claims, and I stayed with it. I got bored at the repetitive sex, but the rest pretty much made up for it. The last part was imaginative enough to hold my interest, and I was surprised at the ending. I gave the whole story a 9, mostly based on the effort put into it. The story is worth the effort, but you must have patience!

JL,

I just finished a long email to him and overall I really liked the story. Sure the story kinda meanders and sometimes you just wanna slap him on the head and tell get over yourself especially when about every other life he would fall into a deep depression over his predicament.

Overall, I felt the idea of the realization as to why he was bouncing from one life to the next was kinda blah. And I believe the announcement that he was having some health problems in RL, might have something to do with the sudden sort of cutoff to the story.

I basically let Number 7 know that I really enjoyed his story and truly admired his damn near chapter a day posting schedule for over a year.

A better more explicit explanation of the universe's plan for him, basically when at the end of a mystery we get the who done it, why they done it, and of course how they done it.

Now that I think about it, I'm greedy and I want it all wrapped up with a pretty little bow.

But if you have the time, take the time to read it. You can easily skip stuff you get tired of and work your way to the story itself.

Yeah, download counts are deceptive for readers. The only one that matters, for long stories, is the readership for the last/most recent chapter, as that's the closest to what your actual audience is. My highest was 16,000, my lowest 600. Mention those numbers to readers and they get confused as all they see is the total which can be 20 times higher.

If the last chapter has a larger number than the next to last chapter, go with the next to last chapter's number. Some people might jump to the last chapter simply to vote no matter how far they read.

I find myself wondering, "Well, what now?" Feeling like a drug addict missing the next fix of a new daily chapter already!

Ugh.

I would say skip it.

I was like you- started, stopped, then started it again. I deliberately took it out of my Active Serials list, so I would only see it when I explicitly checked for Updated Stories. (And it happened to be on the first page.) That way, I tended to see it when there were three or four chapters to read.

Bottom line, though, is that it keeps repeating and repeating, and eventually (the end) you DO get a "sort of" explanation of why he went through all this, but not really. You get "I was put through all this so that X would be Y!" but you never get the follow-on explanation of WHY it was so important that X by Y. Was X the best possibly Y? Was there some specific thing or event? Or just some quiddity of X?

And Jesus! The main character is such a whining little bitch!
