I thought it would be neat for us to share a few suggestions for "must
read" stories.

I'll start the topic with "Sea King" by colt45.

This story contains MF, Mf, Ff, and incest. The story is semi-fantasy
themed, but is more of a stylized version a setting that is plausible
(no magic or elves). It falls into the category "loving masters". In
other words, it contains slavery with any of the violence normally
associated with such stories. In this case there is some very (VERY)
light bondage-themed sex. (Actually, in this particular story there is
almost B/D or S/M, but what I said holds true for the majority of the
genre.)

In fact, colt45 is one of my favorite authors and is currently active
and is between releases at the moment.

How about you guys?

this a little snarky, but the very first sentence of this story has a language error. "presently" means "soon," or "in a little while." it does not mean "now." "at present" means "now."

i'm going to push on, since you've shown us why it interested you, but this is not a promising start.

Mr. Webster begs to differ.

" 1 a archaic : at once b : without undue delay : before long
2 : at the present time : now
usage Both senses 1b and 2 are flourishing in current English, but
many commentators have objected to sense 2. Since this sense has been
in continuous use since the 15th century, it is not clear why it is
objectionable. Perhaps a note in the Oxford English Dictionary (1909)
that the sense has been obsolete since the 17th century in literary
English is to blame, but the note goes on to observe that the sense is
in regular use in most English dialects."

funny, mr. webster says that about some other usages as well (for example, "comprised," if i remember correctly), and it's certainly true that it's in common use. it's still wrong, as defined by every place i've done technical or legal writing in. (but maybe they were grumps and soreheads, who knows?)

dealer's (or writer's) choice --- fair enough. in my book it's still a point against him, although i appreciate the story recommendation very much.

almost forgot. why not just use "now"? only three letters, and it's unambiguous.

Lol, I guess it is for the same reason he doesn't just say "calm".

Secondly, I don't understand why people make claims about the "common"
vs "proper" uses of words. Languages are malleable and ever-shifting
things, and words only have the meanings that we give to them. Thats
how things move from slang to being accepted as being "real" words.

(Also, Rawr! You cant post in this thread without making at least one
suggestion. So make with the recommendation, stinky head.)

they do, but the classy people get to decide what's in and what's out. BTW, why didn't you say that one example in the webster definition was william safire? come on! if safire said it, end of story. i kept his three rules for good writing posted on the wall at work; most people, not all, got it.

G'day,

I recommend the Florida Friends series by Dual Writer and

http://storiesonline.net/library/show_series.php?id=734

all the stories by Wes Boyd, especially Snowplow Extra - a brilliant
story, and

http://storiesonline.net/auth/Wes_Boyd

http://storiesonline.net/story/53053

the Wynter Universe stories, and

http://storiesonline.net/library/author.php?id=1808&type=uni

JRyters Murphy series is good too.

http://storiesonline.net/story/59815:91161;1

Add in Douglas Fox's Paradise Series

http://storiesonline.net/library/show_series.php?id=183

and it wouldn't be complete without Bingain's stories about Max Khimin

http://storiesonline.net/story/52067

http://storiesonline.net/story/60269:99520;1

and, of course, my own Rough Diamond

Good Day,
I must agree with Florida Friends!  (It is ruff to wait till Saturday now, it was bad enough when it came out 3 times a week.)

Then is Unique Adventures by Dark Dreams!

I follow a couple of others, one has been posting here for better than 6 years, and is still going.

Another one is Bowling for Hearts by Rare Dream

Have a Good DAY!

There are no must reads except for "The Palace" by Kipling, but I like
this story and I'd recommend it to anyone bored with everyone else:

http://storiesonline.net/story/57656

"Retreat" by Orestes because I think it tastes so freakin' good in my
brain.

I'm quite sure the writing is not especially excellent, but I do love
his use of language. I like his ideas, his sense of humor, and the
very perverse ending. I think what he's trying to say is that we're in
hell.

He reminds me of me, except different, and this is my third favorite
story of his.

Hi

I would recommend Joe J's Twice Lucky series, and Prisoner of Widows. Also Six Times a Day by Spacer X and Deja vu Ascendancy by Ascending Author. Arlene and Jeff, Doing It All Over are other great stories. But the best author by far, as far as I'm concerned atleast is Lubrican. I would recommend most of his stories. And of course as 'lolshopfora' mentioned, colt45 is another great author.

I couldn't put up with the writing style of "Six Times a Day" by Spacer X. I tried, but finally gave up. The author claimed the story was the longest erotic story ever written -- over one million words. The problem is, he told you the same thing over and over and over again. That's why it has so many words. For me, it was impossible to read.

I haven't read all of Lubrican's stories, but the "Making of a Gigolo" series was really good.

You are right. It does get repetitive. But there is a story line, though extremely mild and slow paced. But the sex attracts me. :D

Hi gang,
OK, here is one I really enjoyed. It's the first in a series of stories and they are all great. It's Sam (Part 1 of The Dragon Chronicle) by Samantha K.  It has a lot of codes that describe it "MF FF ScFi superhero 1st teen cons rape coer trans violent bi het span BD tort gang group exhib oral anal mastrb size toys lac creampie mod" but the one that really carries this story through is Superhero.  I highly recommend this story and its sequels.

Another excellent author is hammingbyrd7. He is probably the best author when it comes to writing sci-fi stories. His Aina Timeline series is a must read. In fact someone who enjoys sci-fi will love most of his stories.

The best source for Wes Boyd's stories is his web site at
http://www.spearfishlaketales.com/ . You will find his newist stories
hear, and by reading the stories listed on the left side of the page
from Thhe Bottom To The Top you will get them incorrect order. Wes id
one of the best on the web, IMHO. (Note I said ONE of the best, not
THE best <G>).

First, thanks for the thread; This may crossover a few of the other
threads about the scoring of SOL and what not but I am commenting
here:

I use the scoring both as an author but even more so as a reader. As a
reader, I take the assumption that if a lot of people (votes) like a
story then I MAY like it; if a lot don't like it then there is a good
chance that I may find the same faults and I don't generally read
those stories.

But the votes are rather immaterial. Someone stating, "Hey, I like
that one." carries much more weight to me; especially if they say why
they like it.

However, I don't vote. Don't know why I don't when it is just a click
away. What I do though is send the author in question an email stating
whether I liked it or not and if there was anything that didn't vibe
right with me. But, I only do this for stories that I complete because
that is where SOL has the block to send the author a line. I have done
this for some bad stories I have read as well but generally I won't
finish the bad ones. The ones that I have found I don't email to the
authors is the "meh" ones. They weren't necessarily bad, and maybe I
was hoping they got better before they ended so I finished them; but I
don't seem to respond to the author if their tale didn't ressonate
with me.

As for Spacer X's STAD, I refer to this yarn as an adolescent males
ultimate dream; especially since it has the pictures of all of
bodacious characters to compare with the story. Yes, the story is SLOW
and especially repetitive (almost painfully so) but after reading how
a character acted like a slut and then felt guilty about it and tried
to go back to their puritan ways only to repeat the cycle again and
again strikes me as absurd but also of females (and males) I have
known in the past who seemed to follow a similar trait.

But that isn't the only thing that is repetitive in STAD; the sex (no
correction not the sex but the write up Spacer X does prior to the sex
happening) go on ad-nauseum. STAD is definitely one story where I have
skipped the sex parts. (Strangely enough, Nick Scipio's Summer Camp is
another one where I can remember skipping the sex scenes; however one
thing both of this stories have in common with me is that I have read
them at least twice; not many porn stories on the internet do I read
more than once; prior to the internet when I mainly had to make do
with Variations and its ilk than yeah there was stories I read
numerous of times).
