Reptil's eagerness to grow up and prove himself to the older and wiser superheroes might be relatable to kids trying to prove to those around them that they are mature and responsible enough to do things they might be seen as "too young" to do. His positive mental attitude also proves beneficial in this movie.
For the intended audiences, this holiday-themed adventure will be a hit. Those expecting high-quality animation, flawed and nuanced superheroes fighting crime amid bleak backdrops, and noirish storylines should look elsewhere. This is somewhat silly and not terribly original holiday-themed fare geared toward younger kids, with animation reminiscent of the Saturday-morning cartoons of the late 20th century. Perhaps the only thing separating this is a humor rooted in self-awareness, coming out most notably in the endless quips and one-liners of Iron Man but also evident in the Hulk and Thor.
Those expecting anything more than a holiday special with obligatory nods to the True Meaning of Christmas will be disappointed. But for parents who have grown weary of the superhero animated features that are filled with profanity, cynicism, and graphic violence, MARVEL SUPER HERO ADVENTURES: FROST FIGHT! might be a welcome respite -- and perhaps even a nostalgic look back to a time when superheroes weren't constantly wrestling with their inner demons while trying to rescue a humanity wearied of the havoc they unleash but were instead, you know, heroic.
Brian Costello of Common Sense Media gave the film three out of five stars saying it will be a hit among its intended audience. he claimed those looking for high-quality animation, nuanced heroes, and noirish stories will be disappointed. He called the story silly and unoriginal reminiscent of Saturday-morning cartoons, differing only in its self-aware quips. "Those expecting anything more than a holiday special with obligatory nods to the True Meaning of Christmas will be disappointed. But for parents who have grown weary of the superhero animated features that are filled with profanity, cynicism, and graphic violence, MARVEL SUPER HERO ADVENTURES: FROST FIGHT! might be a welcome respite -- and perhaps even a nostalgic look back to a time when superheroes weren't constantly wrestling with their inner demons while trying to rescue a humanity wearied of the havoc they unleash but were instead, you know, heroic."[2]
The movie opens on the Avengers battling Ymir, the King of the Ice Giants, on the now-frozen Monuriki Island, trying to stop him from opening the Casket of Ancient Winters. During the scuffle, Ymir punches Iron Man skyward, and although the Avengers' trainee Reptil offers to join in the battle, the older superheroes decline his offer and tell him to go check on the boats stuck in the frozen ocean. Reptil feels annoyed that he's not getting to participate in the battle unfolding below him, but as he takes a look over the boats, he notices Loki on one of them. Since the Avengers are too busy fighting off Ymir to listen to his call, Reptil decides to take on Loki by himself. However, he is too late to stop Loki from opening a giant hole in the sky. The vortex sucks up Ymir just as the Casket of Ancient Winters has been knocked out of his grasp.
Elsewhere, Loki and Ymir have forced the captive Commander Athidel to lead them to the place where the Casket of Ancient Power is kept, which is guarded by a monster called the Urokraken (spelling?), a friend of the Light Elves who has "never been fond of uninvited guests." As the two villains struggle with the Urokraken, Athidel breaks his hands free of the ice-shackles Ymir trapped them in. Unfortunately, before he can leave, Loki escapes from the monster's grasp and forces it to go after the Avengers, and Ymir fully freezes Ahtidel. Ymir brings the Casket to Loki, telling him that he should be careful opening it because it will siphon his powers if he opens it without a target, and the two villains depart. The Avengers and Captain Malitri come face to face with the Urokraken and have an offscreen battle with it before Ahtidel, having fortunately managed to escape from his imprisonment, tames it with a whistle. Malitri explains that they'll have to go to Mt. Jolly, where Jolnir lives. Although Athidel and Malitri insist they don't need the Avengers' help, they reluctantly allow the superheroes to join them.
After the fight, Iron Man admits to Reptil that although he invited him along on the mission simply to mess with Captain America, he did a real good job being a hero tonight. Santa tells the Avengers that he's now a little behind schedule, but Iron Man says he and the other Avengers are willing to help with his gift-giving trek. Suddenly, Ymir breaks out from under the gift bag that fell on him and starts attacking the group, but he is fortunately taken down by Rocket and Groot's ship. Afterward, Santa and the Avengers embark on delivering all the presents, while the Light Elves force Loki and Ymir to repair the damage they did to Santa's house. Later, upon returning to Avengers Tower, Iron Man takes a look at a note Santa left with his present - which happens to be the very letter he wrote to Santa when he was young.
When people talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they are mostly talking about the movies in the MCU. From Iron Man to Ant-Man & The Wasp, and everything in between, Marvel has made some of the greatest superhero movies in history. Outside of that, there is the Fox output of mostly X-Men movies, Sony and its Spider-Man world, and the televised worlds of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix street level heroes. For Marvel comic book fans, there might not be a better time than now to see beloved heroes in some of the best television and movie adventures of all-time. However, there is also a less talked about Marvel world and that is the realm of the animated movies.
The movie saw Hulk wanting to be left alone in a small town he now called home. Two rogue Hydra scientists sent Abomination to help capture the Hulk and then used both of them to build a version of Tony Stark's arc reactor. That brought Iron Man in to help. The two heroes then had to fight Abomination, Zzzax, a Wendigo, Mandroids, and stop the two Hydra scientists.
There were a number of other heroes in the movie, including Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man and Amadeus Cho, but the movie was mostly about Punisher and Black Widow working together. It also featured a nice ending with the two coming to an agreement to ensure Punisher's escape after he helped save the world. Unlike other Marvel animated movies, this one has a much more complex and interesting plot driving it on top of some fantastically rendered fight scenes.
In 2018, Disney HD introduced a new group of superheroes -- one that added some nice diversity to the Marvel animated movie universe. This was in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. The movie had one established hero in Captain Marvel put together a team of younger lesser-known heroes in an effort to bring positive role models to younger audiences.
These included cult favorite Squirrel Girl, Kamala Khan, America Chavez, Patriot, Inferno and Quake (voiced by Chloe Bennet, the same person who plays her in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). What resulted was arguably the best attempt at creating a show for younger audiences that never insulted the intelligence of older kids and adults and presented a superhero team that was exactly what the world needed.
It is the first in the series -- and it is also the best. This movie was basically a series of fights -- much like the video games present. Loki had the Norn Frost and used it to "overload" villains, who the heroes had to face and defeat one by one. Just about every Marvel hero you want to see is here, and the movie is full of the exact type of humor LEGO Marvel fans have come to expect.
It ranks as 89-percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and is the fourth-highest-grossing Disney animated movie since 2007, domestically. The movie has a ton of heart, created some fantastic characters that carried the story, with the team avenging the passing of Hiro's older brother and even the villain was nuanced and sympathetic. It was arguably the best superhero movie of 2015 -- animated or live-action.
