Abuse of minor-mother, uncle arrested in Kerala

In a shocking incident, the Thenmala police on Wednesday arrested the mother and relative of a minor girl for subjecting her to sexual abuse for nearly two years. Three others accused in the case, including the father of the girl, are absconding. Police officers confirmed that it was her parents who had handed over the girl to abusers and she had been raped in different locations, including Aryankavu and Tamil Nadu. The mother and daughter, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, are working in a farm in Tamil Nadu. The girl’s mother had filed a man missing complaint at the Thenmala police station two days ago. “When the police located the girl, she said she was staying with her uncle. As per the procedure, we took her for a medical test where the doctor found she was sexually abused multiple times,” said Thenmala sub-inspector Paveen V.S.

How child trafficking rumours on Whatsapp led to lynching incidents in Tamil Nadu

Two men on a bike stop a youngster riding through Chivada village near Nagalapuram in Tiruvallur district. They question him about his whereabouts. When he responds in Tamil, they allow him to leave the place as they are convinced he is not a kidnapper. Over 250 km away, in a nondescript village in Polur taluk in Tiruvannamalai district, women, in hushed tones, have been discussing about rumours of children being kidnapped in neighbouring villages. The fear has infiltrated to such an extent that they have been guarding their homes at night, taking their little ones along with them to work and sending away grandchildren, who had come visiting during the summer vacation.
