![]() Dear Sabine, Today the NT News published evidence of the ongoing use of spit hoods on children in the Northern Territory and Queensland, and the continuing use of spit hoods on adults by police in the NT, QLD and Western Australia. Last year South Australia became the first Australian jurisdiction to ban the use of spit hoods outright, in law. Change the Record is committed to campaigning against the many injustices that drive First Nations peoples into prison, and mean that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experience terrible rates of family violence. Spit hoods are just one of these many injustices. The campaign in South Australia has shown us that it is possible to change these cruel laws, and in doing so, to potentially prevent further abuse and Black deaths in custody. In solidarity, ![]() Sophie Trevitt - Executive Director |
