Dear All,

Please join next Wed, 3 Nov free online event about Frank Baarda’s new book “My Yuendumu story”. For details, please see: https://reconciliation4westernsydney.org/virtual-building-bridges-2021/

On 27 Oct Prof Jon Altman AM gave a talk about "Land Rights at Risk, again? Evaluation of the Economic Empowerment Bill". You can watch the video recording at: https://reconciliation4westernsydney.org/virtual-building-bridges-2021/#session_2

Minister Wyatt is in the process of implementing what he terms the most comprehensive reforms to the NT Land Rights Act since its enactment in 1976.There are serious concerns about these amendments. For more info, please see: http://www.concernedaustralians.com.au/#Economic_Empowerment_Bill_2021

I've received an email from an audience member from Jon's talk that she represents concerns of a small homeland in the NT and that many Yolngu knew nothing about the proposed amendments to the Bill. She was encouraging "bombardments" of even brief submissions.

To lodge a submission, you may be guided by the information from the video and the documents on the cA website. Please find attached also a one page document with some easier to digest ideas in dot points of issues of concern you may wish to raise in your submission. It is most useful if you can use your own words and make it your own in order to have diversity in submissions and for them to be most effective.

Submissions are due next week Friday, 5 Nov.They can be lodged at https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Finance_and_Public_Administration/ALREconomicEmpowerment

and for advice on how to make a submission, please see https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/How_to_make_a_submission

If you were able to lodge a submission and send this information to your wider networks as soon as possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

best wishes,

Sabine
