Greetings from Stop Special Needs Vouchers -- please forward widely and quickly!!!

EMERGENCY -- OPPOSE Special Needs Vouchers in the State Budget!

Late-breaking news, and news we did NOT want to hear --

The latest word from the Capitol is that, in a legislative sneak attack, a special needs voucher program is going to be added to the state budget by the Joint Finance Committee TODAY.

THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!

This is simply outrageous, and we've GOT to let our legislators and the Joint Finance Committee know!

1)  Can you possibly show up at the Capitol with your green Stop Special Needs Vouchers t-shirt for the Joint Finance Committee meeting?  Meeting is currently rumored to be starting at 1pm; check the WisPolitics Budget Blog, http://budget.wispolitics.com/, for up-to-date details.

2)  Your legislators and the Joint Finance Committee need to hear loud and clear -- putting harmful special needs vouchers into the state budget like this, with neither warning nor discussion nor any kind of public input, is totally unacceptable.  In every version of special needs vouchers ever proposed in any state, students who take a voucher to private schools lose their federal education rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.  Meanwhile, vouchers drain funding from the public schools that DO have to accept and educate students, regardless of disability.  NO established disability organization in Wisconsin supports special needs vouchers, not one.

We need to FLOOD the Joint Finance Committee offices and our own legislators with e-mails and calls, IMMEDIATELY!  Phone numbers and e-mail addresses below:
