Hi All

I hope everybody's projects are going fantastic! Sorry to have missed our last meeting. I wanted to give a quick update (particularly in hopes of hearing how your projects are going).

Working on sets and character redesigns for Fireflies (as you too tell, not going to have a finished project done in time for the screening). I do hope to have some tests though.

We rewrote the ending of the script which I think thematically works a lot better: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1aZ1eXUzMJAXiw3KsHONCP0_ey-qhPwMiQ3l3zI8BzJg

We also filmed several children playing the roles in the animation, both for reference footage and sound.

Also, reworking the shotlist (https://spreadsheets0.google.com/a/studiopebble.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AiFkmH2vnI4ZdDBNZjlrUlhaRDFndjc5NXl1Zl91NkE&output=htmland creating walkthroughs of sets using google sketchup (which is a pretty cool, relatively easy program that I suggest you checking out if haven't already)

I also finished a draft of the script that I pitched in class. I would be most grateful for whatever feedback you may have: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=17026glqb-C3VwG7gdL5Ad-F5wd9GT6djcaMXjf0JiOo . Hope to make this the next project after Fireflies.

Oh and Edie, I'm still working on those hands. When do you like them by?

Best to all,

Aaron

Yay hands! So next week I'm gone and then after that there's two more weeks of my camp job so I'm working slowly on sets and puppets those two weeks. But, I'm almost done. August I'm pretty open and will be really focusing on finishing this beast. I'll be shooting the wide "clean" shots of the pond set first then I'll dirty it up and shoot the rest.

I think an armature would be best for now since I don't know what exact color the background and skin tone will be. Hopefully I'll be ready to shoot hand close ups around mid August. Off screen rigging would be good too, something I could drill into the set and that is strong enough to hold the weight of a clay hand and forearm. I don't mind if the puppets are smallish to keep weight down maybe 6in from finger tip to elbow?

If I were to do the rigging myself it would probably look like a long twisted armature wire with a loop for a hand on one end and the other end glued into a block of wood drilled into the table. Super simple low tech is fine. You can play with having fingers but I'm not opposed to mitten hands with sculpted fingers if it doesn't work. The shots go by quickly so details like separate fingers might get lost anyways. In that case it might be easiest to just fold some aluminum foil up under the top of the hand loop to keep mitten fingers supported and attached.

Again that's just what I would do. If you have better ideas please go for it!

Thanks for the help!

Cool, yeah i'll send you photos of the hands soon!

For armatures, one thing I found that works pretty well if you're okay
with removing the arm in post is a jeweler's holder (just remove the
magnifying glass). You can them pretty cheaply at harbor freight.

Keep me updated!

Aaron
