Chelsea Collaborative and NOAH (the two organizations that help organize the Chelsea Creek Action Group) members will be going to the State House on Tuesday in support of efforts to increase the minimum wage. Since we will have a good number of folks there from our groups and from other partner organizations, we thought we’d do some ethanol work, so Kim, Jovanna and I are proposing the following:
1. The Conference Committee has started to meet. We also learned today that Global Partners is visiting all of the members of the conference committee to get them to reject the senate language. Global’s argument runs along the lines of ‘if hazardous materials can be transported by Fed Ex, why can’t it come in via train?’ We would like to have a larger group go and visit each of the members of the conference committee to get their support for the ch 91 amendment language. There are only 6 members of the committee. This shouldn’t take us too long.
2. We would like to take this opportunity to DELIVER THE POSTCARDS TO THE GOV. I had a long infuriating conversation with the Gov’s deputy chief of staff today. They still refuse to meet with us because “this is a federal issue.” There are many items we should be discussing with the Gov. especially that he support (by not vetoing) the final language if passed in the legislature. Since we will have people at the state house, let’s deliver the postcards.
So the questions are:
Can you join us at the State House on Tuesday (time TBA)?
Can you get other friends and people from your community there?
If you cannot attend, can you get any final postcards you might have to us (by way of Alix)?
In the meantime, please continue to reach out to the Conference Committee members listed below:
State Senator Stephen Brewer (Stephen...@masenate.gov)
State Senator Jennifer Flanagan (Jennifer...@masenate.gov)
State Senator Michael Knapik (Michael...@masenate.gov)
Representative Brian Dempsey (brian....@mahouse.gov)
Representative Stephen Kulik (stephe...@mahouse.gov)
Representative Vinny deMacedo (vinny.d...@mahouse.gov)
Remember to use the following language in your correspondence with Conference Committee members:
"Please agree to include in the budget conference report Section 71A of the Senate budget, which would prevent the issuance of Chapter 91 licenses for large ethanol facilities in densely populated parts of our state."
Our momentum has built significantly and now is the time for a final push. I hope you can join us, even for an hour!
Thank you,
Rosie
