After the video went viral on social media evoking strong reactions, the Jaunpur Police said on Twitter that they had arrested four people.
Less than 500 metres from the Meerganj Police Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, miscreants raised beheading slogans during a Moharram procession on 10 August.

Moharram is an event of mourning for Muslims. However, in recent years, the occasion has been used by miscreants from the community to terrorise other communities through display of swords and sticks and playing of provocative songs.
Wednesday was the tenth day of the first month of the Islamic calendar, observed as Ashura. The month itself is called Moharram. People belonging to the Muslim community mourn for Hussain, grandson of the founder of Islam and hold processions carrying tajiya on the streets.
The processions have traditionally comprised people walking barefoot, carrying sticks and swords in their hands which they use for beating their chests and back while chanting "Ya Hussain".
However, the processions now feature DJ trucks blaring loud music, which is often communally provocative. For instance, a video that went viral on the social media earlier this year from a 2018 Moharram procession in Khargone area of Madhya Pradesh showed a DJ playing the song, ‘Kar denge tadi paar, bulaun kya Ali ko…Is baar mein mit jayega har baar ka jhagda..”.
The participants danced on these lyrics while brandishing swords and pistols outside a Hindu temple. The video was uploaded on YouTube by a user named ‘YT Aamir Khan MP10’ with the provocative caption, “Muslim Julus in Front of Mandir Ek bar me mit jayga har bar ka jaghda Khargone Muharram".
In Jaunpur, participants of the procession on Wednesday wielded swords and chanted ‘Gustaakh-e-nabi ki ek saza, sar tan se juda’ (there is only one punishment for blasphemer and that is beheading).

A day earlier, that is on 9 August, violence broke out in a village in UP’s Bareilly district when Moharram participants pelted stones at the houses belonging to another community. Some Hindus in Majhoa Gangapur village had complained to the police about the use of DJ in Moharram procession, saying that it happened for the first time. This triggered the attack on their houses.

For Karnataka is not just the BJP’s 'doorway to the south', but a natural home for the party. Tokenistic moves will dismantle it forever.
What has happened in Karnataka after the killing of Praveen Nettaru is an organic result of events. The BJP in Karnataka has failed.
Not as a party that proposed a Modi model but as a party that was known for creating leaders with a spine. As a party whose manifesto should have manifested into action by now. As a party whose extended cadre and voters supported it out of fear and hope.
Fear, arising out of the way in which the majority of population, as well as the cities that deserve growth, had both been totally ignored by the other parties. And hope that was instilled in 2014 by the central leadership. And was reinstated in 2018.
The saffron fortresses of Karnataka are now seeing the maximum discontent against the party leadership because of the arrogance of politicians who rode mighty on the Modi wave, only to disappoint their core vote bank with non-performance and a misplaced sense of activism that was supposed to stand in for ‘struggle for Hindutva’.
What placed such people in power was the BJP’s excessive focus on an idea not just in Karnataka but in many other states as well—‘winnability’.
And this ‘winnability’ that brought the incumbent leaders in many seats back to power is what is being questioned today.
Workers are angry because they know the reality on the ground. The candidates were ‘winnable’ not because they did something special, but because the region is ‘saffron’, and the saffron is now getting soaked in the red of blood.
For every time that coastal Karnataka overwhelmingly voted BJP, has the Hinduu on the street gotten more empowered - emotionally, economically? No. Each time a Praveen is killed, WhatsApp messages of ‘Boycott ABC’ do the rounds and then get ‘archived’.
Let’s take the economic part of it. The development narrative isn’t the core of public discourse here, unlike what the Centre has achieved in other parts. Development in pockets where airports were constructed or industrial clusters are coming up are different, but the idea and possibility of, and discussions around, economic growth are still not central to the popular discourse in coastal Karnataka.
Now the emotional part. Why is it that the UP model is invoked each time something like the recent event happens? Because a Hinduu BJP supporter in UP does not need to make long speeches about what the government did for the whole state; he can point to something closer to home, local, to justify his political choice.
How many Prayagrajs have been made in Karnataka? And no, we aren’t talking of name-change here. A Kashi Yatra subsidy of Rs 5,000/- has to be lauded here because in five years the government could not upgrade five key Hinduu heritage cities of the region.
If not for the fear of an ‘anti-Hinduu’ Congress coming to power, the Hinduu voter here is an orphan who is choosing the BJP for the ‘old BJP’ values, while the SDPI, PFI and other such forces have gobbled the minority vote bank of the Congress with unapologetic appeasement.
Even after all this, the key sentiment of the BJP supporter is still aspirational. It was an aspirational hope that got Modi to power. It was an aspirational hope that manifested as the Kashi corridor or as the transformation of Ayodhya. This is missing in Karnataka. And it isn’t that the party hasn’t realised it.
What happened in Bellare is unfortunate, but it got those within the party to take to the streets, to heckle leadership, to make the party cancel its Janotsava celebrations.
Maybe they could instead use the time and venue to reflect and talk to the same workers who fuel their key vehicle of Hindutva.

Maharashtra: Yet Another Man, Pratik Pawar, Attacked for Allegedly Supporting Nupur Sharma

Pratik Pawar was attacked for "committing blasphemy" by supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on his social media account.
A 23-Year-old man named Pratik Pawar was attacked with sharp weapons by a violent mob in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra on 4 August.
The attackers accused him of committing blasphemy by supporting former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma on his social media account.
There have been various attacks across the country for supporting Sharma, who allegedly made derogatory remarks on Islam’s founder Mohammed during a television discussion.
The BJP sacked her from her post of the national spokesperson. However, the controversy did not stop there. Muslim crowds took to streets in various states and cities chanting the slogan, ‘gustakh-e-Nabi ki ek saza, sar tan se juda’ (there is only one punishment for blasphemy of Islam’s prophet and that is beheading).
These rallies were followed by a spate of murders and attacks on anyone found supporting Sharma.
Kanhaiya Lal, a resident from Udaipur, was killed by two Muslim men who entered his tailoring shop by posing as customers.
Umesh Kolhe, a resident of Amravati in Maharashtra, was attacked and killed by a Muslim mob on 21 June 2022. The accused celebrated Kolhe’s death by organising a party, as per a report.
Kanhaiya Lal worked as a tailor while Kolhe used to run a medical shop.
The National Investigating Agency is probing the cases.
The police have identified and arrested five people in connection with the attack on Pawar.
As per reports, Pratik alias Sunny Rajendra Pawar was attacked by a mob of about 14-15 Muslim men equipped with swords and sticks in the evening.
He was heading towards an event with a friend named Amit Mane, and they were waiting for a third friend to join them in front of a medical store in the Akkabai Chowk area of Karjat town.
While they were waiting, a crowd came on two-wheelers. They were carrying swords and sticks as per the first information report (FIR) filed in the case.
The FIR was filed by Amit Mane, who survived but sustained severe head injuries. He is currently in hospital.
The FIR mentions that one of the attackers confronted Pratik for supporting Sharma by posting updates through his social media platforms.
As per police, the investigation is in preliminary stage and they have not reached any conclusions. The key attackers have been identified as Shahrukh Khan Pathan who allegedly attacked Sunny with a sword, Nihal Khan Pathan, Sohail Shaukat Pathan, Arbaaz Qasam Pathan and Junaid Javed Pathan. A minor has also been apprehended.
They all have been booked under IPC sections 307 (murder attempt), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (armed with deadly weapons), 149 (prosecuting common object), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insulting or provoking intentionally).
As per reports, Mane in his statement said that the attackers confronted them for supporting 'Hindutva'. As per Mane, attackers said, “Tumhe apne Hindutva ka bada keeda hai…tumhara bhi Umesh Kolhe karna padega [you are very proud of your Hindutva…you will meet the same fate as Umesh Kolhe].
They further said, “you people have been posting a lot of content supporting Nupur Sharma through your social media profiles after which many have joined you.”
After the attackers left Pawar bleeding, Mane called his friends and took him to a state-run hospital, where he is reportedly struggling for his life in the ICU.
As per reports, some police cases are pending against Pawar. The first case was registered on 7 January 2019, under Section 160 of the IPC. The second was registered on 27 February 2022 under Section 324 of the IPC.
The third case was registered on 3 July 2022 under Section 324 of the IPC. Pawar was accused of attacking a person named Junaid Javed with a brick, due to which he suffered a serious head injury.
Condemning the attack on Pawar, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane made a public statement in front of the press warning the attackers that “if attacks like these are going to happen, we will not remain quiet and that our hands will not remain tied for long”.
He added that 10-15 Muslims attacked Pawar for putting Nupur Sharma’s picture as his display image. Pawar received 35 stitches during his treatment.

Various Hindu organisations have called for a bandh in various parts of the district while leaders including the state’s Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai have condemned the murder of the member of the BJP Yuva Morcha, while requesting citizens to maintain peace.
While Bommai condemned the act in a tweet and said the assailants shall be brought to book at the earliest, addressing the media he said ‘this is an organised plot by a section’ that creates such tensions and while it is natural for people to express outrage against what has taken place, the state is already investigating it and those behind the attack will soon be arrested.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a bandh in Sullia, Kadaba and Puttur taluks in the district on Wednesday (27 July) to protest the killing.
This is the second murder in the area and as per reports it is suspected that this one was an act of revenge for the death of one Masood who was murdered in Bellare a few days ago.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the areas especially at the border towards Kerala, while five special teams are said to have been deputed to nab the culprits, three of whom are searching the districts of Madikeri, Kerala and Hassan districts.
Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said the police are tracking the accused and they will be arrested soon. While such incidents used to take place frequently earlier, such acts of crime had reduced in the recent times, he added, as reported by Tv9.

Why BJP's Pasmanda Outreach Is a Double-Edged Sword; Ghar Wapsi Should Precede It

If the BJP becomes a regular secular party, why vote for it and not other parties claiming the same label?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, at the recent Hyderabad National Executive meeting of his party, to focus on the upliftment of Pasmanda Muslims could turn into a double-edged sword in due course. While no one should argue against the upliftment of any community, and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP's) outreach may (or may not) bring in some short-term electoral dividends, in the long term this needs more strategic thought. If seen only as an electoral vote-gathering exercise, it will have negative consequences for Hindu society.
The Pasmanda community constitutes 85 per cent of all Muslims in India, and the word Pasmanda, derived from Persian, means “those left behind”. The term includes both Arzals (Dalit converts to Islam) and Ajlafs (the other backwards), as opposed to the upper caste Ashrafs, who constitute the remaining 15 per cent and hold the reins of power in the larger Muslim population.
Two propositions need to be stated upfront before we discuss why the wooing of Pasmandas as only an electoral grouping will be problematic.
First, it must be acknowledged by one and all that conversion away from Hinduism has not uplifted any person. Decades and centuries after conversion, both backward class and Dalit Muslims and Christians continue to face discrimination from their higher caste brethren.
Babasaheb Ambedkar makes the same point in his tract on Pakistan. He wrote that though “slavery has gone, caste among Musalmans has remained. As an illustration one may take the conditions prevalent among the Bengal Muslims. The Superintendent of the Census for 1901 for the Province of Bengal records the following interesting facts regarding the Muslims of Bengal: ‘The conventional division of the Mahomedans into four tribes - Sheikh, Saiad, Moghul and Pathan - has very little application to this Province (Bengal). The Mahomedans themselves recognise two main social divisions, (1) Ashraf or Sharaf and (2) Ajlaf. Ashraf means 'noble' and includes all undoubted descendants of foreigners and converts from high-caste Hindus. All other Mahomedans, including the occupational groups and all converts of lower ranks, are known by the contemptuous terms 'Ajlaf ,' 'wretches' or 'mean people': they are also called Kamina or Itar, 'base' or Rasil, a corruption of Rizal, 'worthless.' In some places a third class, called Arzal, or 'lowest of all,' is added. With them no other Mahomedan would associate, and they are forbidden to enter the mosque to use the public burial ground. Within these groups there are castes with social precedence of exactly the same nature as one finds among the Hindus’.”
Second, and this follows from the previous statement, caste, or the varna-jati construct, is something that developed autonomously in India and Indian society. Despite mentions in some Hindu texts and smritis, no non-Hindu community in India has sought to or managed to change this reality. So, Hindu scriptural sanction is not central to how we need to understand the varna-jati construct.
Wooing Pasmandas as Pasmandas will turn into a double-edged sword for Hindus for many reasons.
The BJP ought to know that uplifting anyone within the context of his religion makes the same person more devoted to his core identity. In the BJP’s case, it has been the principal beneficiary of the upliftment of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalits, with the former turning to the party in large numbers, and the latter, in smaller, but growing numbers. When Pasmandas get uplifted, will they become more conscious of their Muslim identity or their Indian identity?
The Muslim concept of the Umma — a global Muslim community owing allegiance only to Allah and his Prophet, and going beyond national boundaries — will force Pasmandas to choose between their Muslim and Indian identities. The same does not happen when Hindu Dalits and OBCs are uplifted because their core identity does not have extra-territorial angles at all.
Next, and this should concern Hindu Dalits and Hindus in general. Currently, while some Muslim Ajlafs get reservation benefits when lumped together as OBCs, in the case of Dalit Muslims and Christians, converts do not get the benefit of reservations because the Constitution talks of caste and not class in their case. If Pasmandas are wooed as Pasmandas, the demand for extending reservations to all Dalits, even if they are not Hindu, will rise to a crescendo.
Thus, Hindu society will lose doubly: it will continue to be blamed and ostracised for “casteism”, and still be forced to treat castes in other religions as additional beneficiaries. There is no better way to destroy Hindu cohesiveness than to move in this direction, and this is where the logic is trending.
With the BJP foolishly jumping in with a “sneh yatra” for Pasmanda Muslims in response to Narendra Modi’s call, the head of the All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz (AIPMM), former Rajya Sabha MP Ali Anwar Ansari, has already started pointing in this direction. He said the Pasmandas needed “samman” (respect) more than “sneh” (love).
In an open letter to Modi, the Indian Express quotes Ansari as saying: “It’s not that we, as Pasmanda Muslims, are asking for something special separately; rather we, as Muslims, are demanding that the discrimination against us by the government be stopped forthwith. The same demand is also for our Christian Dalits. They are also being punished for being Christians. We have been of the firm belief since the very beginning that the Pasmanda Muslims alone cannot win this battle. We can succeed only with the help of Pasmanda Dalits of all religions and other progressive and justice-loving people.”
Little wonder, Muslim intellectuals are already pointing this fly in the BJP’s ointment. Hilal Ahmed, Associate Professor at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, noted in an article in The Times of India:
“Ansari’s critical assessment of Modi’s statement validates the fact that the marginalisation of Pasmanda Muslims cannot be addressed merely by taking out a few Sneh yatras. If BJP is really serious about expanding its social base among deprived Muslims, it has to concentrate on those structural issues that produce and reproduce social inequalities and communal stereotypes.”
In other words, change the reservations policy in favour of converted communities, and also other economic policies like privatisation. Ahmed is essentially calling for the evisceration of the Indian economy further by creating an unwieldy state, and a disparate society where more and more people live on freebies and non-merit subsidies.
It is crystal clear that Ansari and Left-liberal intellectuals are seeking reservation benefits for Pasmandas (and Dalit Christians) as Muslims and Christians, and not as just the jatis they belong to. If this is done, two consequences will follow: the conversion merchants will be further emboldened to use their resources to convert more Hindus, now using the reservations argument in their favour.
Secondly, as more people demand more reservations, the demand for expanding the quota system to accommodate the newly-recognised Pasmanda Muslims and Dalit Christians will become a hot political issue, just as the OBC caste census now is. Hindu society will then come truly under siege even while literally carrying all the guilt for caste-based discriminations.
Hindu organisations need to sit down and figure out how Pasmandas can be uplifted without making them another vote-bank seeking favours. The best way forward is to organise Dalit Hindus to prevent further additions to the list of communities that are entitled to quotas, and, most importantly, make renewed efforts to bring back Pasmandas to the Hindu fold. Ghar Wapsi is the solution. Reservations cannot be extended to further the interests of two Abrahamic religions that will benefit the most form it.
Consolidation of Hindu society and Hindu electoral power must precede any large-scale wooing of Pasmandas. If the BJP becomes a regular secular party, why vote for it and not other parties claiming the same label?

Do you know that the largest body of MUSLIMS living in a functioning democracy is BHAARAT, which is almost 11% of the total Muslims in the world?
None of the 57 OIC countries is truly a secular democracy. The reason is that Islam’s ethos is not democratic. Islam originated from tribal background. Since its inception, all the decision making relied on brute power, exercised through powerful warlords. Historically, succession in Islamic rule has been through treachery, poison, sword, gallows, assassinations or coups.
Therefore, the society which Islam creates is not fit for democracy, socially and intellectually. If you look at their history, all their Islam’s heroes were dictators and warriors; The barbarian invaders like Khalid Ibn Walid, Tariq Bin Ziyad, Salahuddin Ayubi, Ghauri, Mahmud Ghaznavi, Mohamad Bin Qasim, Allauddin Khilji, Tamerlene (Taimur). They name their children on these medieval barbarians.
In Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Political parties are banned. Indonesia with 231 Million Muslims (13% of the world’s Muslims) has been a dictatorship till 1998. Although on paper a democracy it’s a ‘Demagoguery With a Mix of Theocracy’ and its democratic indicators are in recession. Pakistan has been under military rule since partition. Bangladesh has been vitiating between martial law, theocracy, Mullahs and never been fully and truly functional secular democracy.
WHY DEMOCRACY IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH ISLAM
There is no other faith in which the prophet wields so much of power that obedience to Muhammad supersedes even that of Allah. Islamic societies need aeons of evolution and paradigm shift before they are ready to embrace the concept of one man-one vote. They are less troublesome when ruled by despotic rulers. Democracy does not fit them. Qaddafi, Hafizul Asad, Shah of Iran, Gemal Nasser, Anwar Sadat, Idi Emin, Ayub Khan, Yahya, Houari Boumediene, King Zahir Shah, Saleh of Yemen, Sadam, all are examples of dictators in the last 50 years in Libya, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Algiers, Uganda, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen etc. These countries were controlled, generally peaceful and no proliferation of jihad as long as despots ruled them. They are worse off now after US/Western intervention to introduce Democracy.
Islam is a political regime which establishes autocracy in the name of Allah who is the sovereign and the right to rule (as per Quran) rests with those who are powerful among the populace. Today we call it as Martial Law where heads are not to be counted (but chopped). Muslims vie for a central authority in their civil structure an assembly of oligarchs, a military junta, few powerful lords, etc. Majority of Muslims tend to live ‘happily’ in despotic and non-democratic countries or monarchies.
MUSLIMS is India will always be unhappy and dissatisfied with India’s Democracy as they can’t value freedom of speech, liberty of expression and equality as a citizen as this has never been the ethos of Islam’s 14 centuries.

How will India deal with such Islamist
Every action was once an idea. Similarly, the practicality of Islamist violence starts from the indoctrinated idea. They surround themselves with exclusionist radical ideas and believing them as the only truth with social beliefs, they become rigid.
As the history of Islam is the history of conquest, the court’s scholars of such conquesting rulers used to interpret the religious text on an aggressive line. They used them in motivating their forces to launch constant attacks on foreign territory. Reading these commentaries, ideas, and interpretations of an original religious text, they created a ghettoized environment. They made these medieval writings the source of their Islamic knowledge.
In modern times the territorial boundary of a nation-state was defined along sovereign lines. But Islam, as a religion, remained a borderless idea. Also, the indoctrinated idea of Jihad, Ummah, and Kafirs remained a uniting force for Islamists. Using the doctrine of ‘secular’ and ‘special religious freedom’ for the minorities of countries like Bhaarat, Islamist advances their radical idea of political Islam.
They created parallel sovereign states based on their religious idea and challenged the authority of actual sovereign states. In Bhaarat, they forced the secular state to recognize their Sharia law in social governance. They also got privileged treatment from the state to run their religious institutions with secular’s funds.
In a way, they institutionalized ghettoization with state funding, and created their own social, economic, political, and religious policies. Effectively, the rigidity in thoughts was bound to happen, with violence being the result of such systematic Islamisation of a secular state.
So, to break this rigidity and parallel state functioning, governments should adopt a systematic reform policy. Their exclusionist schools like Madrasa should be modernized in line with the modern education system. Religious literature that promotes violence should be banned. Moreover, the privileged given to promote their religion should be rationalized. Organisations that promote enmity and exclusionist ideas must be investigated.
The way forward would be to fulfill the constitutional directive given under Article 44, which is to invalidate the irrational personal laws and create a society based on the democratic principles of liberty, equality, and justice.
Every institution, literature, leader, or idea, which promotes violence in the name of religion, should be treated as an instrument of war and be stopped at any cost. In the state authority, such religious killings cannot be allowed. Strict action should be taken to stop such killings of Hinduus. Otherwise, the counter-social unrest will destroy the very foundation of the state. Voting rights of Muslims must be taken away.
