Parents need to know that Confidential Informant is a police drama/thriller in which a terminally ill narcotics officer (Dominic Purcell) learns that, if he dies in the line of duty, his family will be well provided for, so he cooks up a scheme to make this happen. Violence can be intense and includes guns and shooting, deaths, bloody wounds, flashbacks to war, fighting, people being hit with hard objects, and more. A woman is seen topless in a strip club; she also removes her underwear, briefly showing her bare bottom and a blocked view of her front. Women in skimpy underwear are seen in a drug den. Extremely strong language includes uses of "f--k," "s--t," "a--hole," "c--t," "bitch," and more. Characters abuse drugs (cocaine and heroin) and alcohol, sell drugs, and drink and smoke socially. Robert Downey Jr's triumphant return to film, this movie is a satirical take on film noir and detective movies in general. The screen chemistry between Gay Perry the private eye, played by Val Kilmer, and Downey Jr's robber turned actor, Harry Lockhart, is hysterical, and the film's tongue in cheek nature is witty, smart, and delivers. Directed by the man who directed Lethal Weapon, the action is top notch, the laughs are pretty much constant, and the mystery is compelling. It's mind boggling that nobody saw this when it came out.
